Looks Indica to me , can't tell the strain , that's diffucult as there are thousands.

They could still be the same strain , one could have a greater percentage of sativa in it's genetics and the other more indica , this is really common.

I dont top i bend and manipulate my plants , It will def not reduce potency it is a practice that many ppl use to great effect, Who ever said that is an idiot. Potency is genetic, you can't alter it like that.

Use 24/0 light to bring it back quicker , 18/6 will work but will take longer. Flush all the salts from your soil if not re-potting(really important), Watch out for bugs if you leave dead roots, fungus Gnats etc....
