The seedlings wont need it very often in such a big container if you get the soil good and wet the first time. After your plants get big you will be watering frequently. You can tell they need it when the bucket gets lighter.

Funny you say they fail, do you have any experience wit that? How come so many seem to have successful grows with them and you dont? Maybe it wasnt the lights that were the failure.

I dont know what 707 is, but if it is potting soil the answer is yes. I plant mine directly from germination to potting soil no problem.. As far as which way to put the seed I split the difference and put it in sideways because there seems to be a lot of disagreement which end goes down/up.
