Yea Ive seen those foam boards at Lowes, Home Depot, etc... Id recommend making walls out of some thin 1/2" or 1/4" plywood, so you get sturdiness, ability to attach things to it, and the outside will look relatively un-suspicious. Then put that foam on the inside for insulative properties.

hmmm...You say you dont have enough light coverage in a 3x4 closet using a 400w hps...What kind of reflector are you using? Because a decent air-cooled reflector just might be what you need. If you dont have a good one, with air cooling, might i recommend the Sun System: Super Sun reflector...

What brand of timer? I have a Titan: Apollo 6, which is rated at 15a, and 1800w. It seems to be working fine...but im not running anything like a 1000w... Id try them out, they make good stuff...If it still burns out...then maybe theres something up with your wiring or ballast or something...
