The only strain you'll be able to grow in an aerogarden is Lowryder, LR2, or a cross-strain. I know you think that you can top a plant to keep it short if you choose another strain which you can, but... when you do so the plant then becomes wider and wider which means the aerogarden won't work...

I haven't tried soaking mine first, i just go straight to paper towels and it works good for me. I think that's what you should do is find what works best for you. I'd heard good things about both methods, I just happened to try PT method first and stuck with it. Good Luck.

You can get an eye loupe off of ebay. I have a 15X that I use to look at the trichs and it works great. As far as your other problems, I have no idea. I grow LR2's, but only indoors, 18/6 all the way through, and very little nutrients because Lowryder strains don't like much nutes.

It's hard to say how much got because we don't know how dense the buds were, but you probably didn't get an 1/8. Chances are you made out ok though. Why don't you skip buying bud once and purchase a scale on the internet for less than you paid for the buds and then you can weigh it out...
