When growing indoors, I've always noticed that the plants seem to grow the most (or maybe it just seems that way) during the period the lights are off. I definitely like having at least 6 hrs of darkness (unless you're using an auto-flowering strain).

LOL, I've seen a few retarded plants in my time as well (a bit too many). Sometimes they will shock you though, so definitely keep it alive if you have the time and resources. Love to see some pics.

Personally, I would use more than a gallon of water, especially with peat moss. That stuff drains like a mo'fo. Using straight peat moss (and 30 gallons of it) I'd definitely be sure to water on a VERY consistent basis to make sure it doesn't dry out. By the way, I'm just a little south of you...
