What if they are a ways away from the plant, like at the edge of the pot, ~5" from the stalk?? I'm using CFL so I doubt heat would be an issue...... The bulbs themselves are barely hot to the touch.

Yeah I'm more confused than ever, even with the pic (which I still think they both look the same) so I'm just going to plant my root facing SIDEWAYS - that way it is equidistant from needing to go up or down.. :)

socom, what you say makes sense but in this picture the red looks like the blue, yet one claims root is up and the other is root down - they look the same to me, both going upwards. But I do get what you're saying - make the tip of the root face down, regardless of position.

Pics? I'm confused, I thought the root needs to go DOWN into the soil? Which way is up? *shrug*
