i wouldn't go with blood meal if you're going outdoors, I have, and skunks and other pests love to dig around in it, I guess the blood scent attracts them, anyways it has led me to GREAT frustrations in the past for this reason, mice also like to dig in it, and then eat seed, or young seedling! IMO

mice love the seeds, and the baby sprouts

Also, would like to use worm casting but they are hard to come by in these parts

You can add all kinds of goodies to your soil to improve it, bat poop, alfalfa meal, coco, perlite vermiculite(drainage, aeration), worm castings, kelp meal, compost (not fresh), manure (not fresh) although too much of anything is bad, home depot in canada has soil test kits for like 3 bucks, 4...

I buy Promix, 3.8 cubic foot bale for around 25-30 bucks here, they carry it at Crappy Tire, and Rona I think. Have very good results with promix, although I add some other ingredients to it, it's a great base

they do well around here, but i really want to grow a haze, any haze! just not long enough season here, unless I go in with them, but i prefer letting mother nature do her thing

A little bit of everything, I like to keep them close when they re little, and then i'd say more bush than backyard once they get bigger, i can't wait for the spring thaw so I can get out and start digging!
