I thought with DWC you want to keep your res temp well down .. otherwise you start getting some nasties in your water and root rot.

Mind you I was doing RDWC with a separate res. (pain in the ass for me)

I added a little peroxide to the res but I left it for 3-4 days without changing the ice packs and started to get some funky roots...

hence the return to soil and epiphany to go organic dry amendments and AACT's only :D

Awesome job will be watching and learning is it better to veg with a 600 instead of a 1000 ior it doesnt matter?
i dont think it matters. it all depends on how much area your plants are covering. if you have 4 small plants than a 600w is just fine. as you can see i have 11 decent sized girls and need the 1000w to cover them.

thanks for stopping in, glad to have you aboard.

Hey Matt..

I read that even with DWC it is still best to keep temps around 65.. might want to research for yourself..

I was switching out icepacks every 24 hours.

Cool basement floors are real good for that. :) I've always kept my temps below ~72 and I've never had any issues of rot or anything growing in the rez. I remember reading 74 is the line you want to avoid.

congrats on the new gear... should be fun setting it up.

What kind of nutes are you using in your dwc?
general hydroponics flora series.

yeah for right now the basement floor should be fine. i know when i reach my hand in the water its always cool to the touch. i havent really been monotoring temps so im going to start doing that soon. it may become a iddue once the DWC goes upstairs to veg after the flip tomorow.

got my TDS meter calibrated so hopefully it gives a more accurate reading. I used hannah instruments TDS calibration solution. was pretty easy. on the side of the bottle it gives a chart of what PPM the solution should read at each given temp. i guess the PPM goes up as the temp goes up, makes sense since the PPM is just a reading of electrons in the solution and more heat energy makes molecules move faster....correct me if im wrong on that theory.

pretty simple task, just took a temp reading of the solution, found out what the PPM was supposed to be and turned the little screw in the back untill i reached the correct PH...done deal. now tomorow i will head over to my grow and switch out the water in my rezz for plain tap water which im sure will read over 100 PPM. by next weekend ill probabally add 1-2 ml of nutes to the rez to raise it up to around 200-250 ppm im hoping by next weekend i have a decent amount of roots coming through my net pot.

i have to remember its blueberry gum in there which is blueberry dominant ( me thinks) and everything i hear about BB is its verry sensitive to nutrients and dosent take much to be happy.

anyways, should have some pics of the setup tomorow after i re arrange everything. almost want to wait for this 600w ballast to get in before i re arrange everything as the CFL rig is kinda hot and dont need temps skyrocketing...will have to partition the old lady who lives at the house to drop a fresh bottle of ice in the rez daily.

wondering if i can make a DIY chiller with some insulated copper tubing, dry ice and a airtight cooler....

DIY watercooler.jpg

only problem is i need to know how long the dry ice will last, if it wont sustain i may be better off using ice water and replenishing it daily.

dam not even stoned but this seems like a good idea, i did some research on the dry ice deal and seems it wont last long (didnt do a shitload of research)

but a full sized cooler full of ice will last, i just need to make sure i upkeep ice cube trays.....i probabally wont go through this effort but its worth the thought. gonna go get high now,

Matt, the other day I was reading up on a DIY water chillers and copper in the res or anywhere in the nutes will cause problems (kill plants). I research for hours and everyone has said the same thing. This guy has the best DIY water chiller in my opinion, and his first post in his thread has the link to the build he copied and a link to a stainless coil called a wort chiller. The coil can be found on eBay or other sites for cheaper. His water chiller would be overkill for your setup, I know that.

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/453857-cheap-effective-diy-water-chiller.html

I looked at your diagram and it looks good except for the copper, if the copper going to touche your nutes.

Using dry ice to cool your chiller would help with CO2 seeing how dry ice is pure CO2. I don’t know the cost of dry ice but you would need to purchase some every day. Fill bottles with water and toss them outside to freeze, switching when needed.

Matt can you post a link for the fan and filter combo you purchased.

Plant still look great, when you flip the veg room 12/12, those girls are going to fill it up aren’t they.

All those plants should make you happy, happy, happy.

And I was at the Hydroponics Shop yesterday and the owner had the bag of white shit on the counter. I asked her what it was and she said “mushrooms, grow them in a 4x4 room for CO2, there’re not the ones to get you high, there for CO2 only”. I haven’t research it yet so I can’t add anything else, other than that.
