1000w led for 6x6

Anyone got any experience using one of the 1000w bar style leds in a 6x6, looking at the par map of some of the higher end ones looks like they should do just fine.

I think if I could get a light mover that moved the light in a square shape instead of a straight line I’m more than sure it would work.

Its probably just better to think of it as 4 3x3s and get suitable fixtures. Normally the throw of these lights (about 44" wide square) is great for a 4x4, decent for a 5x5 in a tent and soso for a 6x6. In any case its somewhat low on watts for that space. Light mover wont make more light just spread it out.

It’s actually for a 12x12 space so I would use 4 of them.
I know a light mover won’t add more light haha don’t worry I’m not that stupid, it would just be to spread the 3035 umol/s out over the 6x6 space. Which according to my calculations translates to around 85umol/square foot/second

Is it realistic that the light is actually 3.03 ppf/w efficient? It would put it in the class of HLGs star products where they cherry pick the best diodes from an entire factory. If its a china light or rebranded china light its not very likely but not impossible. But it would have to have an immense diode count.

Also never seen a square light mover, only side to side. If you get this working please show it of cause i bet people would be interested.

It would probs be a dimlux or similar and I’m aware even top manufacturers inflate their numbers but that seems to be a given and we factor this in when choosing any grow light these days anyways. I’d always opt for at least 65umol/s/sqft when choosing lights.

The problem lies more with the footprint like you said these are usually designed to work best in a 4x4 and I don’t see that trend changing anytime soon tbh

I’m sitting trying to figure out if 2 light movers could do the job, I’ve never actually used one but I’m just watching videos now. One mover could move another mover along the x axis and the other mover could move the light along the y axis, if u know what I mean, sounds abit complicated.

Look at prices and technicalities of light movers to see if its practical and cost efficient: my guess, with prices of lights dropping quite a lot, is that when you make the numbers and practical considerations youll end up buying lights instead of movers.

Depending on your grow style you may also consider this: instead of considering this to be 12x12 space consider it 4x 5'x5's, each lit by one of these lights. That way you have possibility to have a bit of space between the trays, walk ways, space for fans etc. I would not advice to pack a space wall to wall with flower since you need to be able to move around slightly for inspecting plants, air movement etc.
Our space is 2m x 3m; or kinda 7x10 but its based around 4 trays, each about a 3x4. So 48' of trays but with cannopy heaping over in the rest of the 70' space. Works well and cannopy covers everywhere pretty much

All very nice ideas here mate, I’ve got a 3x2.8 m space right now that’s about to be used for flowering but it’s not the whole space there’s another metre or so at the front which I use to work, ,I’ve got 9 plants in 70 odd litre pots right now in veg and I just hand water and slide them back and forth, they get trained with bamboo in their pots so they’re easy to move independently.

You are right about wall to wall pants being a nightmare but in my scenario I’ve mitigated a lot of the drawbacks.

when I look at proper top high quality led systems they’re all around a grand for 650ish which I’d use for a 1.2m2 so I’d need 9 for a 3.6x3.6 whereas it works out much cheaper to buy 4 1000w. Plus I absolutely hate fuckin round with rope ratchets etc, the less lights the better imo, maybe not coverage wise but for practicality.

correctly sizing lights to canopy area was one of the big reasons i moved away from sodium to diy led. with diy you can build the light exactly the right size and wattage for your needs. i know diy is not for everyone but i honestly think its worth the effort...

to be fair your maths is a bit squiffy here - 9 x 650 watt fixtures is 5850 watts, and 4 x 1000watts is 4000watts, 6 x 650 watt ish lights is more compareable but i get it can be a hassel adjusting all the seperate lights ect.

either way i would forget about using 1000watt led lights that have the standard 44inch square footprint, its too much watts in too small an area.
i would honestly go with rockets advice and get more smaller lights for the better spread, maybe think about making a frame that you can attach the smaller lights to to make it easier when its time to adjust ect.

I wasn’t trying to make a direct comparison between 9x650s vs 4x1000s I know the 9x650s would produce considerably more light, you are right tho, 6x650s is more comparable and tbh I could have those on light movers as they’d only need to travel along one axis to provide even spread. It’s more of a budget/practicality conundrum I’m mulling over. And my ocd about square spaces, square footprints and square numbers probably has something to do with it

Yeah ur right they would work but that’s 16 lights to buy and fuck around with. I’m no snob but if I were to downgrade from hlg for budget reasons I’d probs buy kingbrites, I’m kinda hoping to upgrade to the dimlux lights tho.

Some of the manufacturers offer discount on multiple units. Plus discount codes.

To me 1000w lights are not practical when it comes to light spread.
How much weight can a light mover take?

These are all brilliant questions I haven’t got the answer to bro hahaha.

when yi look at migros video on the photontek thowwy hes saying it’s ridiculous how powerful it is in a 1.5 but yeah like u said it’s the spread that becomes the problem. If you can believe some of the manufacturers claims on the par maps then some are still hitting mid 7s in the corners of the 1.5 so I just estimated that the extra 6inch all around might be“relatively decently lightificated” (jokes)

That’s not much bigger than any of the other 650+ lights, maybe an inch or 2. If I really wanted to I could diy some extra large scorpion Diablos with 9 boards, it’s almost as much of a hassle as dealing with 16 smaller lights tho hahaha

Tbh mate I do too, I love my hlg 350rs, and in the uk you can get 3 x 350rs for the price of a scorpion which is weird, and you can walk between them without smashing yi head off probably the heaviest hardest piece of metal I’ve ever seen in a grow room hahaha
