i ordered "net pots" which are full of slots so the nutes can get to the roots, i started the seeds in some soil then put them in some "rockwool" but i just did that because i was waiting on my rockwool to come in the mail but you can start your seeds in the "rockwool".

i'm a total newbie but i've scouted the materials for building this so i'm just tryin to get a feel for what needs to be done to get it started up.. appreciate the advice :)

btw how did you go about cutting the circles out? i still been thinking about that for a while and can't really think of a good method...

yes you can start the seeds right in the rockwool... as far as getting started just go for it i was iffy at first but it all worked out fine...and to cut out the holes i just took a cup that was a little smaller than the net pot and used a knife to cut them out...if you have any more questions i will be glad to answer them...good luck!
