• Hey, long-time reader, first-time poster. Previewing my posts, it seems like [Return] doesn't register, so everything just runs together. So that's why all the bulletin points. Consider them as simple spaces and returns.
 • I've got these 2 Northern Lights plants I started from seed.
 • I'll call them Big, and Stupid.
 • There were originally 4, and 2 ended up males and had to be removed. Stupid was the runt of the litter, and I had little hope for Stupid because it was SO small before I removed the males. Well, Stupid friggin exploded in growth, and I was so proud!
 • Description of issue:
 • Big is flowering, and doing a wonderful job of it. So beautiful! Stupid is also flowering, but the buds are shamefully small, and stupid-looking. However, Stupid is COVERED in trichs. I mean even the damn branches are covered in trichs, and just brushing the thing with my arm leaves me sticky, while Big's trichs are much more modest, and hopefully are still developing. Cuz otherwise it would be a lil disappointing, honestly.
 • Question:
 • Why the heck are Stupid's buds so....small and spindly? As far as overall size goes, the branches are a bit smaller than Big's branches, but it's got a LOT more of them and they're a LOT longer. At one point, the very tip-top of Stupid got itself too close to the light and got burned a bit. lost a few leaves and a couple small bud-sprouts. Not really very much. Other than that, no plant has shown any other sign of issues.

 • -SETUP-
 • I have a weird soakaponic/NFT combo setup using 6" drain pipes in a U-shape (each leg of the 'U' angled so that water inserted in one end will run all the way through and out the other end) with holes for net cups every 8 inches or so, and inside the pipes runs 1/2" hose connected to something like a 600gpm pond pump in an 8-gallon reservoir. Between every 2 net cups, a 360 sprayer (or 2 in some spots) is inserted snugly into the hose. Each net cup is thoroughly sprayed with nutes. One reservoir for potentially 16 plants. That's the plan, anyway. Everything is scalable, too- I can obviously do fewer plants, and I can do a larger reservoir. Light is 400w HPS in a cheap-ass reflector, in a small 7ftx5ftx8ftHigh room covered in mylar. An oscillating fan comes on during watering, which happens 15 out of every 60 minutes.
 • Using RO water, "Growth Technology" 'Ionic' Grow and Bloom solution with Cal/Mag, around 1k ppm, changing weekly. 2-1 ratio of Grow to Cal/Mag. I check solution every other day. Stupid IS at the end of the U-shaped pipes, so everything drains past her roots (she does get fresh nutes from the sprayers though). My least-well-controlled variables are temp and humidity, and I may have ventilation issues. Ventilation is fine when used, but it pulls in cold outside air, so it has to be minimized and sometimes it's forgotten (will be putting on timer tonight). Humidity is low...cuz it's winter. About 20%. Temps vary, but stay mostly around 76F. I also played around with adding CO2 by way of yeast+sugar for the past week or so, but Stupid was already the way she is before the CO2. They've been in bloom for about 6-7 weeks after about 4 weeks of veg and a week of germ (from seed).

Just a guess here but if you have them inline so to speak does Big get the nutrient water first before it flows to stupid? If so maybe Big is hogging all the nutes and they are not making their way to stupid. Post a picture of your set up so we can see the mechanics of it

 • OK, you convinced me lol. Here's some pics of the setup. jaytea- yes, Stupid is at the end, but there are sprayers at every net cup, so if anything Stupid may be getting too much nutes... even Big isn't at the front of the line. There's one Snow White (out of 4 that was female-ugh) at the front of the line.

I had this exact thing happened with White Widow fem seeds I started from the same batch.

Two were perfect, the other one just like 'Stupid'.

Just an inconsistent seed. It'll be just as good efficacy-wise, just won't produce the same weight.

It happens.

That's why when I start from seed, I like to take a clone from each seed before putting them into flower. When clearly labelled, you can throw away the 'Stupid' clone, and keep the good one as a mother, without the risk of it happening again.

Yes it's a pheno that can happen from fem seeds. And it doesn't always come out in the plant even if you clone and re clone from the fucked up pheno. We've had it happened from fem OG seeds. Sometimes when it happens only one branch on the plant will have those fucked up buds developing and other times the whole plant will be gibbled up like that.
I think it happens in more Sativa/Sativa hybrid strains too because if you look at pure sativa strains and how their buds develop they develop very airy and separated unlike Indica strains develop their flowers.

You're best to start from scratch after putting Stupid to rest. Poor little Stupid. I kind of feel for her now. Make sure you smoke her though so karma doesn't fuck you over. :bigjoint:

THANK YOU! SO glad to hear, that it's not somehow a weird hermo-male thing. Especially since I just (literally 60 sec ago) toked on a bit of quick-dried Stupid. She's not bad :)

Those plants are really big concidering how much room they have haha, id say good job ether way! id just keep all of stupids bud to smoke for yourself lol. after those things are harvested and dried i couldnt even imagine how little it would weigh out but oh well as long as its nice!
