2 to 3 times stretch during flowering? Really?

Stretch is not something u want in veg...when flowering begins...a transformation takes place and stretching is good actually and desirable... IMO...the more it stretches n stacks the bigger colas ull have...see what I'm saying?
Yeah I agree with that. It's really about the 1/3 stretch at flower and the "fill in". That's where I see the bud mass coming from. Not from longer stretches of the branch or cola, but from the width and back fill.

I think we are all programmed to think weed should look like a long, spindly, twig, with popcorn buds and no leaves. Think Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

After some experience you learn that this type of plant was the result of bad gardening skills. A bushy, green plant with lots of full buds is what a real gardener produces, consistently.

I purposely top my girls at 17-19", at the end of flower I will be lucky if they are 27-30" At this height they can still produce a pound easily. Don't concern yourself so much on height, what you are looking for is an even canopy so that means manipulate the lower side branching to catch up and height won't be such an issue.

I grow [over and over] a sativa dominant strain...
My stretch is depending on plant age... However, always the stretch 50% more when moved to Bud Room...
When the plant grows taller in veg, it's growth...
When the plant grows taller in Bud, it's called "stretch" When did people start calling veg growth "Stretch"?
People that claim to get triple sized plants in bud, are either growing Indica dominant strain, or maybe they need to measure again...
my 18" plants grow to 27"
a little 12" plant will grow to 18"
That's how mine grow.... every single time...
and I measure every plant I grow....

I can not argue against a stretching pure Indica, for I have never grown one..

Yup, "stretch" another example of word confusion in the mj world. OP was talking about the flowering stage "stretch". Think the confusion is the "stretching" or growth that occurs during the veg period resulting in long spans between nodes. I think we are all familiar with what causes that.

What's your preferred method of branch manipulation? I saw how Thatboy uses wire in the soil, very nice method by the way. He has some good shots of that somewhere on his threads.

I think I prefer this type of procedure over a screen because in a small grow closet 2x3, I like to be able to rotate containers and pull them out for watering.

My goal is to have as many lower branches reach the canopy just before you flower. What has been working really well is, once they have a good green base (lots of mature leaves) I begin to de-foiliate the lowest beanches first. Removing the inner sucker shoots all the way up the lower branch to the top leaving only the top and one or two suckers remaining, the leaves from them shoots is left to be puled off entering flower. I repeat the process throughout veg one or two lower branches every few days. By the 4th to 5th week You will see which side branches have made the cut and remove any spindely short branches. If done correctly should look like this:

This isn't the best of girls but you can see what I am talking about. Getting the branches up in the canopy takes a little practice but understanding how it works and why id the key. Everyone feel like they will hurt the plant or their yeilds...

That is definetly not the case.

It only makes common sence that if you remove the inner shoots on the branches the energy gained by that branch will benifet the remaining top.

I hope this clears my statement up for you. There are so many views on the subject and some are here just to argue and confuss, do some research and play around a little and you will see...Im not speaking out MY ASS like so many others on this topic.

Thanks for sharing. I was following your posts on the defoliation thread earlier this morning. You know what you are talking about, primarily because you are doing it! It makes a big difference when you speak from personal experience vs. the "would be" gardeners and parrots.

I will be getting in touch with you guys as I start to employ these techniques to maximize my harvest while keeping it all organic. As a twenty year gardener, I have always practiced selective pruning techniques to focus the growth of my plants and trees in specific areas. This has always resulted in more flowers and fruit. My first mj grow had no trimming except the lower leaves that yellowed. I just wanted to see what the plant was capable of all on its own without manipulation. I believe with these techniques I can increase my harvest dramatically, which interest me.

First grow: Getting those side branches to grow could be a source of huge bud production.

Be careful.w defoliaton tactics...its bit me in the ass before....lessened my yield...I thin the plant for airflow...trim meaningless shoots n leaves on bottom...that's it...

Nice girlies you got there Prosp!

Thats exactly what you should do. Knowing what the strain and genetics have to offer in its natural state is the best senerio. I ran my shark for almost a year "O,natural" and had a real feel for the strain. I new what "I" could yeild in my room, which varies from grower to grower. With that info in hand I was able to play and see what worked and what was a failure. Each room will dictate different needs and only you will be able to set the perameters for your needs.

Experiment is key and failure is part of the process. Don't go and blame the technique when 90% of the time its an enviormental thing or more likely the grower. I know this from experience and failure I have had plenty.

Good Luck
