I use topsoil mainly, then mix in a little bag of potting soil that has peat moss to loosen up the dirt a little since topsoil is so compact. then mix in perilte by eye.

yeah man its not the roots, its severe nitrogen deffiency i bet the leaves turned yellow first then they started to dry out, pretty much the dry leaves are gone but thats ok, give them a complete hydroponic nute like general hydroponics or any of the others and make sure to ph the water at 6-6.5 and it will go away

You could try the soil meter in the water. I would do that before I used the strips again. They suck big time. General hydroponics makes a lot better thing for testing if you don't have a meter. And good to keep on hand in case your meter breaks. The PH test Indicator at the bottom of the page. Much easier than strips, I have some. But best to at least get a cheap meter. http://www.generalhydroponics.com/genhydro_US/buffers.html

Ya, So does mine. Reads 7 in my tap water and also 7 in distilled water, just a cheap combo meter I only use now for light. But my meter reads 8.5 in distilled and 7.5 in my tap water. What one should I trust? The one for water. To me distilled water is better to use. At least I know what is in it. Nothing.

You said you watered them this morning, So mix a foliar spray for them and feed the next time you water. Those are good size pots for those size plants and I would hate to see you over water them. How often do you seem to have to water them now?

Just those 2 plants were watered this morning. the 2 sickys cause there PH was higher. all the others are 6.5 and were still moist water wise.

I would not trust the meter. You need to get used to checking them by weight. Lift them when they are wet and check them until they feel light. I don't think you are giving them enough when you feed. With the good drainage you seem to have I would give them 1 gallon each. You need to get the water/feed all the way to the bottom of the pot to work best. Seems with what you are giving them you are only feeding the top roots. Make up a foliar spray for tonight, Take 2 aspirin for yourself.
