2012 - Is there really going to be a life changing event? Or is this just all talk??

I don't think it's too far fetched to think something grandios will happen. Every year there is a massive flood in Brazil when the sun and moon align. It stands to reason a massive gravitational alignment of the planets could produce a similar result.
it's just not the planets aligning. all the planets and the sun are going to aline with the center of our galaxy and that to the center of the known universe.

Lets get a few things straight. The Mayans didn't predict the end of the world, 2012 just happens to be the end of thier calander. It just so happens that another civilization in Asia came up with the same date. Aswell as Nostrodomus. Oh, and the Mayans did predict the arrival of Cortez. As for the pyrimaids. I think theres alot more to look at with things like the Baghdad battery, or those strange hyroglyphs that ressemble a light bulb. Or that wierd machine that turned morning dew into life sustaining algea. Hell, the Nasca lines are more cause for speculation then the pyramids imo. Someone already said, it could be done with an effective pulley system, which they had there whole lives to think about. lol Anyways, back to the original topic.

I think its funny how people think this world isn't going to end. Even if its not on 2012, it will be sooner than you think. This world has alot more to worry about then alligning planets and solar flares........

look at what i've started... sorry everyone. heh. ;)

but, I mean.. if you stop... and really think about it you guys.. you see more and more events happening each day it seems.

er well I do anyhow.. I like to watch the national news channels to see whats going on in the world around me... and it seems like as the days and months go by.. it seems that there are more and more huge events (such as the oil spill!?!) happening every single day. I dunno, everyone here is entitled to their own opinion.. but IMO.. I really do believe that the world WILL end one day.. but it won't be in my life time. Or will it? Who are we to say that it won't happen in our life times?? Seriously.. how can we be absolutely 100% positive and sure that it won't happen in our life times? You just never know.. and we can't never be 100% certain that it won't happen during our life time.

Thats the thing about life.. you never know whats going to happen, as the clock ticks away each second, minute, hour, day, month, and year.

So, you really need to have an open mind about the subject.. to really understand.

But anyhow.. I'm going to keep living my life each day to the fullest, I will continue to smoke every day.. as long as I'm still here on this planet. And until the day, when I'm called to the heavens.. I will keep wondering.. "What if.." ;)

peace.
Yep. In the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi: "Live as if you were to die tomorrow, Learn as if you were to live forever."

thats not even half the weight.
Exactly - ONE OLD retired construction worker is able to move / rotate / lift / level a stone BY HIMSELF that is 19,200 lbs with a few pebbles, sand, some and some wood without a bead of sweat. You are saying that something twice +/- the weight is divine. When in reality this guy could do it with a few buddies who like cold beer.

Alright.. there temple works as a 6 number calender, you can tell the time by looking at how the sun hits it. Everytime the equinox hits it, it creates serpant shadows. You might have trouble comprehending these people much more complex then you, or anyone else. They know shit we don't that should be obvious. "By far the most impressive structure of the complex is the "Pyramid of Kukulcan" * (usually called "El Castillo"). This is a square-based, stepped pyramid approximately 30 meters tall (with the temple on top), constructed by the Mayans ca 1000-1200 AD, directly upon the multiple foundations of previous temples. It was mysteriously abandoned along with the surrounding city of Chichen Itza by 1400 AD."

"The pyramid has special astronomical significance and layout. Each face of the pyramid has a stairway with ninety-one steps, which together with the shared step of the platform at the top, add up to 365, the number of days in a year. These stairways also divide the nine terraces of each side of the pyramid into eighteen segments, representing the eighteen months of the Mayan calendar"

"The pyramid's design reflects the equinoxes and solstices of our solar year in a spectacular game of light and shadow. During the equinoxes, the setting sun casts a shadow of a serpent on the northern steps of the pyramid."

Take a look for your god damn self. They knew more then you, more then me.

edit: and yes I can now see it can be lifted, I had no clue it was easily done with sticks, Learned something new.

But Im asking you guys to look into this pyramid and try explaining it?

Their entire civilization commited to astrology their entire life. They were beyond intrigued and studied hard obviously. So yes in certain instances they have shown to be more knowledgeable in different aspects.

Considering there was no such thing as electricity and they found all the shit out on their own. They left us behind something extraordinary, people are too quick to judge people trying to help them. If you built something like that and made sure it would last for centuries you wouldn't want someone saying wow yeah, that means nothing. Because in fact it means alot. All I'm doing is trying to understand it. anyone else who wants to figure this out is more then welcome to post. But im done with the hostility and being insulted.

I'm sorry. I didn't know you lived back when the Egyptians were alive. Why you were there, why didn't you ask them how they moved those blocks? Why build a battery? People knew about electricity back then. The Romans and Greeks used electric fish to treat pain. So is it realy so farfetched that someone from that time learned how to harness this power using a make shift battery? Do some research, your opinion might change.....

is more and more stuff happening every day?

or is mass media just making us more aware of events that have always been happening, weve just been to caught up in our own petty bullshit to notice untill now, when half the worlds population has nothing better to do for 6 hours a day but sit on there ass and stare at a monitor of some kind or the other.......

just a point to ponder.

There isn't anything that needs explaining.

They didn't figure out anything that "we" didn't already know. The story is as old as time. The story of Jesus is the story of the sun. His Birth Dec 25th coincides with the winter solstace, Easter is the spring equinox, his resurrection of 3 days is the number of days the sun appears to stay stationariy in the sky at the winter equinox, etc.

The building was designed with their knowledge. They didn't slap something together and it just happened to have 365 steps, make a serpant etc. If you know when the winter solstace is (sun is at the lowest point in the sky) - it is easy to count the days till it is the lowest again (365 +/-). Same thing with the summer solstice (sun is the highest point in the sky). It is easy then to figure out when the equinox is and build your temple so that the stones make a serpent on the equinox.

Man is more awesome than we give ourselves credit for. God / aliens had nothing to do with those structures. Man and his curiosity is what is owed all the credit.

I'm for knowing history but sometimes it can get a little frustrating or boring. It's like, o.k. yeah that shit looks really hard to build and know one knows how for sure, but let's not jump to 'It was the aliens!' or 'It was divine intervention!'.
Also
Let us not digress from the point of the OP... (@hydro hippie):are you saying that the way they were built or the purpose of these pyramids and other structures could give evidence supporting the mayan predictions of the apocalypse or the whole solar alignment thing? Do you have another point besides saying that these things seem impossible to build?

Here is another tender topic. time travel. If you watch all 5 parts, you will see that this video by morgan freeman states that as you rise in the air the clock ticks faster(or slower I cant recall) thus making time travel possible.. A guy taking a certain orbit around the world can age somewhere around 10 months as the earth ages years.. If we could ever build a spacecraft traveling somewhat close to the speed of light we could take a mission to a star. But when they got back from their 10 year mission, civilization has aged somewhere around 100 years or alot more. I do think that would happen because your going so damn fast who know what the hell your rippling through. And like Morgan Freeman said himself, "time is not universal".
