24/7 LED Veg anyone?

Huh... I ran into this with my 24/7 veg under 640w of PCL PhotoBoosts. I thought I was just underwatering or my tap water was terrible. I'm new to this, so...? Running VivoSun airpots with FoxFarm OF/HF/LW 2:2:1 mix. Tried to do the first knuckle test to determine if I water or not. Seemed reasonable until they got all droopy on me. Then I thought I was overwatering in the airpots (derp), so I compensated and underwatering and almost killed them entirely haha. Next time I'll try to start on a 16/8. The new growth (they're still in veg) looks less burnt, but def lime green for most of them. Some of them look perfectly normal in terms of coloration.

Cannabis respond to increasing daylight hours with rapid vegetative growth ( Clarke, Marijuana Botany).

Seedlings cannot fully use 24 hours of light, and it is my personal belief that they do benefit from having a period of darkness.

Personally, I start seedlings under 12 or 13 hours of light, and I add one or two minutes of light each day until I reach 15 or 15.5 or 16 hours.

I run 24/0 with 4K Atreum boards and 2 growmaus red pucks. not sure of ppfd but i keep them maybe 18 to 24" abbove the plants in veg. this grow i didn't even have to move them up when i flipped to 12/12, hardly any stretch with these 4K boards.

EC is usually around 1 with 0.2 of that from well water. Temp is mid 80F. size of plant at finish is about 24"
My stretch has become nothing since I switched to these 4k boards/ red pucks. Not sure if it's the extra blues, the extra red or what to be honest?
But Iv'e run 24/0 for the last decade pretty much with every light I've had.

I am going to go full wildman and use smart plug with timers. I heard a lot of folks scared to do it, but I feel like I've already screwed up this grow pretty badly, so why not experiment? (=
I don't think anyone is scared to try it, we just use what we are 100% certain that will work properly at all times. I won't try it because it's just another device you have to buy that provides no real benefit. It'd be different if you had to switch the light on and off manually throughout the day, but that's not how a grow room works :)

I've heard directly from more than one person that their flower room was lights-off for a few days because the "smart" switch failed to operate correctly. That could be a costly mistake, a possible whole crop going hermie.

Each to their own though!

I didn't have timers. I'm new... so I just grabbed smart plugs instead of mechanical or digital timers. I did this after I realized this grow may be shot. They seem to be recovering, but my god are the bottom leaves burnt to a crisp.

I wasn't referring to anyone in this thread. I was lurking on a smart grow room thread and people seemed turned off by the smart plug concept because of stability of the technology. Totally understandable from your point of view though. Why add costs where you don't have to?

What is your umol?

Im frustrated then why I have had such issues with my plants under 24hrs light. My umol is about 300-500. Thats not that much?

I have increased my feed to 1.6-1.8, lets see if that helps...

i could measure with a lux meter when lights turn on. i took some measurements when i first bought these boards but i don't remember now.
only reason why i do 24/0 is temps in my room. i'd have to run a heater to keep temps up so why not run a light instead? but i've tried em all: 22/2, 20/4, 18/6, the gas lantern routine and i always come back to 24/0

Well, then, this is what I must know....

If my plants recover after giving it rest / sleep / dark period, then does that mean the plants were getting too much light?? That is the question I need answered. If I can know the plants are simply getting too much light, I will feel better. I just feel like it could be a nutrient problem ...???

i read your earlier posts and you are growing in perlite. is this like a hempy bucket? flood/drain?

have you tried multi feedings at 12hrs apart with a lower EC?

I'm basically growing in perlite pots on a table. I usually leave the table flooded with a pump circulating The water. I replace the water every two days.

So it's kind of like a hempy bucket or dwc in a sense...

My friend, certainly there is a point of diminished returns when it comes to usable light.
Also, there are biological processes at work during the dark period.

Can you share more information ?
How close are your lights to the canopy?
Can you take a few photos and post them here?

In my experience some strains start to droop after they've recieved 'x' amount of light.

You can run the lights 24/7, but I find it to be a waste of energy and money. If what you're doing isn't giving you the results you want, then try something different!

No one will convince me that the dark period isn't beneficial for plants. In fact they do grow during the night.

Now go take some photos and show us what you've got!
