What kind of temp increase do you get with these heatsinks when running the strips at recommended 50w? Using 50cm of sinking per strip.
I will need to check and get back to you. The strips themselves are pretty wide and they are made of aluminium so the LED count per square isn't high and the PCB itself has good thermal properties compared to FR4. You should be able to run them up to 70W on heatsinks which is based on what we've seen with the boards. But I will need to get an exact temperature reading for you and get back to you. Ambient temperature will also make a difference as you know. It gets pretty hot here in Australia.

Oh, and give me a day or so to process your PM as well ;)

Great. If you would be so kind to make a note of the ambient temps and heatsink temps it would be great, aswell as if there was any air movement over the strips :)

Hi Rocket Soul I finally got the message to answer this from PC! It looks like he has answered to bit about burning sulfur but I took some photos of the voltages with one strip parallel wired with one board and I can confirm you can definitely wire them in parallel. I also took a photo of the strip at the other end and there was no voltage drop at all. So PC is correct that our strips and boards are over-engineered at the circuit level.

The strip and board I used were uncoated so they have not been electrically isolated. You can't do this on the conformal coated strips and boards.

There is a small difference in each circuit, as the strips have 4x 3030 LEDs in parallel for each circuit (there are two circuits on the strips) and the boards have 3x 3030 LEDs in each circuit (there are 10x circuits on each board). The ratios of LEDs are the same, so same ratio of UVA, Far Red, Red etc.

How long are the wires? Would it seriously compromise the coating if I soldered to unused pads? Would it work to reseal with silicone or other sealant? BTW, thanks for all the info posted by you and Prawn.

The wires are 200mm long 18AWG and they are high-temperature chemical resistant. You can solder through the conformal coating to attach wires to the unused pads but that's why we sell both single end and double end wire strips to save you the hassle. You can just order what you need. One thing about the conformal coating we use and that is it is not as flexible as pure silicone so it can crack if you bend the wires a lot. We would suggest using a small amount of liquid electrical tape or similar to reseal the pads once you've finished wiring everything into place. It is really where the plastic sheath of the wire meets the soldered pad that you need to re-seal because this is the area that is most likely to crack the conformal coating but also because the sheath can ride up on the wire very slightly. The rest of the strip will be fine.

We use this product to reseal because it is heat resistant and flexible and creates a thick waterproof and dielectric coat.
