you can flush without the perlite. it sounds crazy but after you do it once flushing isn't that big a deal. use 3 times the volume of the pot of water for each each plant. helps to put the plant in a bathtub or sink. afterward ruffle the top soil a little so it doesn't clump up. then loosen it again the next day. the pot will be ready for a watering/feeding within a few days.

i am one happy motherfucker.

also, decided what i'm doin' for a/c. i figure i've got about 30-40 days of veg time to play with my a/c options. whether that be take apart the other unit i've got (made by same company) and learn how to re-wire it's thermostat, or take rory's suggestion and purchase a dual hosed a/c (already lookin'). but for now, the a/c comfortably sits inside my tent and works like a charm.

How tha fuq do u open them shitz? I have the same problem so just opend a diffrent strain!

No you still can and should. If you have cut the mix with perlite you can pretty much water whenever without issue because it is well aersted. I would still flush sooner than later.

i was prepared to flush last night, but went to check the plants and they looked worse than they ever have before. i came to the conclusion that i simply left them without water for too long (was trying to let em' dry out real well before the flush). oh well, lessened learned, and that was a good sight to see for experience purposes. i will flush once i see they have recovered.

i was using a knife at first to try and get the glue out of that side hole thing...ended up stabbing myself and switched to an ice pick. i highly recommend using an ice pick as it has less chance to slip out and hurt you like a knife did to me. regardless, humboldt did a terrible job designing their packaging.

wow..can't believe i'm on day 48 of veg. time is flying by. since i last posted i think i've watered the girls twice. both times it was a heavy watering of pure tap water. i pulled a lot of the tops down today because they were 11" tall (8" at highest point now) and i haven't even ordered my screen nor 7 gallon pots yet lol. i made the order today though.

i'm thinking of transplanting shortly after the 7 gal smart pots arrive. i'm also thinking about giving the girls a light nutrient feeding (20%?) in a few hours. the lights are off right now, but they were dry right before lights out.

do you guys think i should stick to pure water or go ahead and give them some nutes? i posted a picture of this damaged leaf to help figure out what i should do.

I'd give her water one more time to be sure. It does look like she's starting to get hungry but a little more time will tell for sure. I'd say they're ready for upcan when the new containers arrive. Then get the screen 2/3rds full and flip.

ok duck, i gave the girls water one more time. next time i'll give them nutes @ 25% strength?

i had to use my free prime trial to get free shipping so should have the 7 gallon pots in 2-3 days. i'm excited to be training with the screen, but not entirely sure how i am supposed to train the plants into the screen. i'm sure i will be able to figure it out though, can't be too hard.

next post i make will probably be a nutrient reaction or pictures of the girls in their new pots. later y'all :leaf:

What kind of screen did you get?

The plants still look way to green to me, but maybe it is the light? Also, what are you going to use soil wise when you repot them? God I hate soil for the exact reasons that you experienced in this grow..you have no idea of knowing what the hell is in there. Maybe there is shit loads of N, maybe it's mag deficient? Then you burn your plants and it's time to flush. Just too much guess work.

Anyways..the scrog... Pretty simple really. You want to spread out the growing tips and always keep them under the screen. When they grow above the screen, you grab them, pull them back under and position them so they are growing away from each other.

I could probably write a book about scrog technique but the BIG key is ...even canopy

To keep it simply, I would place each pot right next to each other and then train the stems to grow away from each other. Like a V.

The biggest question is...when to flip? I would say 50% full is when you should prepares.

When I hit around 50% full I pull all the leaders under and leave the side shoot. Then I do a pretty heavy lollipop. After giving them 3 days to adjust to their new metabolic balance (production vs usage) from removing leaf matter, I switch them to 14 hours of light, 10 of dark. That is plenty of dark time to trigger flowering and you get two or hours of carb production.

I don't switch to 12/12 until week 5-6.

Keep feeding VEG nutes the first two weeks and a mag supplement is always a good idea.

I'm gonna stretch poultry netting over a frame constructed of PVC for the screen.

Some of the leaves are dark and some are lighter. The lighting is definitely throwing the pics off though.

I was told growing in soil was a good way to do it for your first time, so I did. Honestly, I think I am more of a hydro guy. I think my next grow will look a lot more automated and probably be hydro.

Thanks for the scrog advice. Keeping an even canopy is proving to be rather difficult right now. This is because I did not lst the main stem properly on either plant. Now they're both growing differently and far from evenly...if you know of a way to correct this I'm all ears.

hey bud, the plants look good. don't worry about yellowing leaves on the bottoms...that happens as the plant begins to starve the bottom limbs while supplying the new growth on the top of the plant. that's why i untie my plants and lollipop them before i put them in flower. just trim off any sick or dead leaves. won't hurt the plant.

if you are gonna try hydro them experiment with it first. get a small system going and then grow a few in soil. that way if something goes wrong you still have some buds going. hydro can be a bitch with a lot of moving parts. seen a lot of experienced guys lose whole crops cause a pump went out.

Good idea. If I do hydro I will make sure to have a couple going in soil just incase.

I ordered the 7 gal smart pots but the order fucked up so it got canceled. I think it is a sign that I should add a few items to that order. I'm thinking about mixing some dolomite lime and worm castings into the sunshine mix I have for my 7 galls. Any advice on soil amendment would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to do some more in depth research on the topic when I get home.

i add both of those to my sunshine mix. 20-25% worm castings and 1 tablespoon per gallon of soil for the lime.

Both are good amendments. If you're feeding chems you don't need the EWC but they won't hurt anything and will probably have some positive effects.

one 600 for each light. That current run is totally OUT OF CONTROL. I was busy and dind't put the in there until they were already about 5-6 feet tall. Some of the stalks are monsterous. I'll try and take a few pictures. you know you have a big harvest coming when the 12 plants drink 40+ gallons of nutrients a night!!

legally, that's a sweet op ur runnin there!! Hope a big harvest comes your way.

Today is the girls' 2 month birthday. Also got the 7galls, dolomite lime, and worm castings In the mail last night. Gonna post updated pics when they're in their new homes.

Before that though, I wanted to ask y'all if there is anything I should know before amending my soil with the lime/castings and putting my girls into that medium. I know super soil must 'cook'..not sure if my mix will as well.
