4x4 tent ventillation help- any ideas?

So i have this tent



there is the in-vent at the top (i turned it upside down)

it's a 4x4




it's got ventilation on all the time except the air just goes across the room. i don't really want to pump it outside because good warm air will go with it and heat costs are enough. during the summer good cooled air will go outside and also waste. if i have air coming in then it has to be the right temp outside. as it is set up right now the same air will be circulated over and over and the plants will eventually stop growing. i guess i could open the window once in a while but i just thought of that. not too many other options i can think of. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you turn it upside down? It's designed that way for a reason - Heat rises. You want your intake at the bottom and your exhaust at the top. Otherwise it's going to be much harder to control the temp, and anything over 75-80 degrees F is too hot. Get a carbon filter and put it at the top of the tent and heat your living space with the filtered air.

Yes, and co2 falls. Your plants need co2.
Put the vent at the top homie!

for 1... clean them wires up off the floor.. you got a three way there.. if theres a puddle of water there and you dont know it your in for a surprise.
for 2, your fan appears to have wayyy too much ducting.. you need to cool the room that the tent is in... put your fan and filter inside the tent but first turn it around the correct way.. no clue how you thought to turn it upside down.. but anyways.. put tent right way.. put fan and filter inside tent.. position the fan, to suck air through the filter and blow it through your lights out of your tent into the roof/wall/floor...


in my opinion.. the tent basically cools itself... with the room the tent is in at like 70 or even 65.. your tent should run no more then 75 max... there isnt no rocket science.. passive intake... so the vent thats at the top right now, belongs down at the bottom. use that as your intake.. you do not need a fan sucking air in the tent..

1.) from what i remember co2 rises.

3.) the temp down there gets pretty low, low 60's and the temp inside the tent stays at 72 this is why i turned the tent upside down to get only warm air in there

4.) i'll be using the t5 florescents the whole time

i thought of a good way to vent HIDs. when it's cold out being air in through the reflector so it's heated before it hits your garden. and exhaust all the garden air.

i might flip it back around but i'll definitely be moving those wires

Tents are easy to keep in the temp range... try keeping a shed in the U.K the right temps!! lol
as said before shorten your duct, flip the tent the right way up.. use the passive intake and personally i would vent the old air outside the room the tent is in so you get a nice exchange
I used to run a 4x4 tent and never had more than a 7 degree temp change when venting outside

If i understand your overall concern is the air in the room becoming "stale" so to speak? Have you considered adding a carbon filter to the exhaust and circulating the old air through the house with a pedestal fan? That would prevent heat loss from the house. That or just vent it outside and consider the dumped heat a cost of growing.

Big fan to exhaust for fluro's / leds ?? I am using a 100mm in line axial fan to pull warmth out of my cloning tent that runs a total of 75w of fluro's.

Does your fan motor hum with that speed controller when turning down or running on low speed?

i'll put on a carbon filter when the times comes. putting it on the end you see there. i might put it up on the furnace so the air gets sucked throughout the house by the filter slot on the return

Any motor really is built to be speed controlled. IF the humming is getting to you, buy a variac - that will solve that issue

c02 is heavier than air. When things are heavier than air they sink, and wow i cant believe almost everyone overlooked those wires...

i just remember someone telling me the c02 goes where the heat goes. it makes sense what you're saying though with it being the heavier molecule. o2 hangs out where it's cold, people keep their rez cool to get more dissolved o2.
another worry i have is basement funk smell on my bud. i guess with t5 i don't have to worry about infrared picked up on my exhaust. i'll tinker a little and try to get a passive outside air in/ exhaust out, see how it works. it's a little cold to be doing this i'll prob have to take it apart

air inside the tent umm.. 68degrees, 29% humidity



air coming out a 64 degrees will stay in the house no exhaust, it's a small garden

i hope this stays stable


2x2 ebb and flow with hydroton, 20 gal in the rez, 185gph pump 15 min every 4 hours, no air stone, 2' 8 tube t5 HO fluorescent fixture 6500k 18/6, box fan, timelapse camera, thermometer

so the temp kept going down, i got the blower on for 15min every hour the temps will only sink to 65. another blower with a filter will go where the outlet is

i'm just gonna do this. too much cold air was getting in

turned the tent right-side up (with passive intake at the bottom) getting air out at the top and letting it blow around the house

this worked before just fine

Have you started any plants in this setup yet? And if so i would love to see some pics!

I upgraded the ventillation. Sorry for the dark pics. There is a IN vent from outdoors that goes through a hepa filter. An OUT that goes outdoors. There will soon be a cooltube with fan and ducting that will allow me to close the tent. The cycle is 15on every 1:45 I made the window cover from two pieces of plywood sandwiched together with bolts that fit tight around the window frame:
