I have a tent that has a 600 HPS and I use a T5 set with 8 bulbs for side vegging but was wondering how many plants I and safely have in the tent?

throw in a 5x5 flood tray and pack in about 9 6inch containers and do a simple flood and drain system that way you can have a resorvior outside the tent making nutrients watering and space easier to work and more effcient. This does add some initial cost but is still pretty cheap.
Rubbermaid Roughneck storage container, hoses, air pumps and airstones (recommend walmart or dollar store), submersible pump and hoses for circulating nutes. My friend has a nice set up made fairly cheaply this way. His veg system is in a 4x4 ft flood table and his flowering system uses individual containers following the same premise.

Unfortunately, right now I am using soil, I don't possess the knowledge to do hydroponics yet. I figure once I get a couple of grows under my belt using soil, then I will start going with hydro. Thanks I will keep the advice in the back of my mind.

I'm doing 7 to 9 plants to harvest in my 5x5. Everything is germinating right now. I use coco. If you can mix together pancakes from a mix you can do coco too. It's easier than soil to be honest because you don't need to know anything about organics.
I'm starting 20 seeds, expecting about 16 plants through veg, and then taking that down to 7 to 9 plants once they pre-sex.

grow as many plants as you want, it all depends on veg time and style of grow. I have grown SOG with almost 50 plants in a 4x4 flood table, right now i have 6 plants in a 5x5 area in soil pots.
I have found that for best yield it depends on strain, I have a 5 x 5 and 1000w, currenly in flowering is 8 Silver Pearl in 1 gal pots on an adjustable table and 15 Blueberry in 2 gal pots, I have found this to be best for these strains, but try all diffrent sizes with diffrent stains. but for example with that little siver pearl I get as good of a yield form 1g pot as 3g and actually better more solid bud, but with the sativa dominent I like a bigger plant. It also depends on how many I have to flower, IF i only have a few plants I'm going 5+g

Really bringing it down to 7 or 9 plants? Isn't it better to just buy feminized seeds or is there something I am missing?

thats about what i do when i start from seed, 7-9 from 20 is just about right usually. If you dont pay for seeds its no problem, and when you do buy seeds you plan for this.

OIC, so if you pay for the seeds you don't have to worry (whew) but if you use bag seed or get some from a friend you have to be careful? (oh by the way, I LOVE your profile pic, LOL)

I bought 12 "purps" seeds from BCbuddepot early this year. From 12 seeds i got 5 females and put one of them to seed, she gave me about 3-400 seeds. Now i wont need to pay for awhile for that strain. This will be more than enough for next time i start from seed, but I'm working with clones now. I never grow "bagseed" unless i know the strain for sure. ( & thanks for the props on my wifes pic)

Wow, okay I am new to growing but I thought that if you had males you really didn't get anything out of it. I mean no buds (right?) and no smoke (right again?) So what can you actually get out of it. Sorry for all of the amateur questions, I am just trying to learn and you know you don't get experience from books. I actually have a very nice plant that I am praying is female but I really can't tell, it is 59 days from seed tomorrow and damn if I still can't tell WTF it is, that's why I say books kind of suck and there is definitely no substitute for experience. I hope I am not bothering you with all of the questions, I really just don't know. Thanks man...

All you get from males is pollen, once the pollen is released it pollenates the females and then the females produce bud that is full of seed. Thats why I said weeding out the males, i meant pulling them out and killing them. Most people dont want males unless they want to get some seed from that strain. Then with only females left you finish the crop.
And i dont mind answering questions, thats what the forums are for
