Lenders usually evaluate potential loans on the amount of risk and exposure.
If I don't know you and you offer no real collateral I'm likely to not lend to you or seek a higher rate to cover the anticipated defaults. If an unsecured loan defaults, the lender suffers the loss.
If you do offer collateral, say a house and land, the loan is "secured" and even if you default, at least the lender knows they will not be left with nothing.
Besides a loan is an agreement between willing participants, why should an uninvited third party (government) claim any right to make your decisions for you? Where do they get that right?

I can go to a bank n get a loan for a 250k home with 10% down (25 k)
Get financed @ 4% ... I could trash that house n lapse on my homeowners insurance in the next 2 years and default.
The bank is going to eat it.
I could never default on a school loan, they chase you forever. They garnish wages. Freeze bank accounts and seize tax returns etc... I don't see why the interest rate would be two-three times higher for school loan.
The Banks are greedy scum, They can't lose. Even on a bad investment they write it off and the federal government bails them out with our tax dollars.

With the ability to freeze accounts n garnish wages, the likelihood of getting burned is miniscule.. It is a fair question to ask from Sanders why the 2-3 times interest rate on a safer investment...

Who makes that guarantee? Why should you be on the hook for someone else choices? How does that teach responsibility?
Student loan defaults are increasing. What if the person defaulting doesn't have any money in their account?
Central banks and government controls are what have caused a financial mess, giving them more control doesn't seem likely to be a solution.
Have you ever bought a house?
What else happens when you put 10% down? Then explain why that requirement exists.
And no the bank doesn't eat it --- put your thinking cap on.
Actually the bank wins all around.
If you have MIP the insurance company eats it and the bank is made whole. They then sell the home 'on a block' and some other lender buys it..block price is pennies on the dollar..for which the try to turn around and refy the whole nut back to you.
It's a study in pure greed.

And Bernie? When I was going to college student loan % was lower than the home mortgage % by double. Doh! They are examined on their own merits. Still looking for yours.

Paid family, sick, personal, maternity, paternity leave
Guaranteed income
Term limits for congressional seats.
Legalization of cannabis.
Pure separation of church and state
Massive gun control
33 hour work week
Minimum wage tied to inflation
All dirty energy outlawed.
Glass Ste-gall reintroduced
Citizens united overturned.
Reduction in military spending
Funding infrastructure, education, and abortions.
And a HEAVILY taxed wealthy class.
So all you racist white people who like the status quo should know that it will go our way. You are dying off. Thankfully. Best thing that can happen to our poor planet that you refuse to care for. Obama won twice because of my generation, and you think we wont put sanders in the oval if thats what we want, then you are deluded. We may not show up in the midterm, but better believe we show in the primary.
