600w 4x4 HydroHut Silver Edition Grow With Multi Strains

Not to step on Statik's toes here, but I think that the videos I put on Youtube would probably help you out pretty good.

Just do a search for "SOGBobSmith", and seven videos will pop up.

Good luck.

Not stepping on any toes bob. It was your setup that helped me decide which way to go.

Gnome, which hut did you go with? I mean, what company? I don't have all my venting setup yet. Things have been fine so far with the flaps left part way open and a fan going in there. Temps have been between 60 - 80 degrees. Humidity has been between 45 - 65%

I am about to kick on my 400w MH I think. As soon as the Hydro store can get the right sized glass for my reflector anyway. Ordered two different sheets now, and they have been the wrong size! :?

Anyway, should have a pic update for you guys in a just a little bit here. Before morning for sure. Plants have gotten a lot of their color/vigor back. Lots of new growth. You'll see.

Alright, like I promised...pics before morning. It's 11:29 here in Cali so ha ha!

I got a call (as usual) today saying that plants were fringing and drooping again. In other words they were wanting to be watered. Still don't have the drip system in just yet so top feeding by hand still.

Anyway, got there and sure enough they looked a little moisture deprived. Also the gnat problem was getting a bit out of hand again. Little bastards.

Other than the "I need water droop" and the bug issue. Pretty much all is well. A few plants a showing some slight deficiencies still...and I KNOW my PH is good right now. Plants have grown a lot, so I figured its them just telling me to up the nutes on 'em. So thats exactly what I did. So instead of 1/4 strength I went with half this time.

I figure it should be fine, it burned some of the smaller ones last time...but I doubt I will have that issue this time. I also added Neem Oil to the water and PH'd it off to 6.3. Tested my run off and I am at 6.4. Good stuff.

Tossed 4 plants today as well, so plant count is down to 34 now. I accidentally threw one out that I didn't mean too! My one and only SnowCap!

So I took what I was able to, lopped it off..split the stem, scraped it to expose the cambium..dipped it into some clonex and dropped it into a rockwool cube. Threw that into my hum dome I started the seeds in to begin with. Then threw the seedling mat underneath that. So...we shall see. If it lives, it will provide other SnowCap babies for next go around...if its a female that is. :?

Strain count is as follows:

SS Haze: 6

Green Tea: 5

Oregon Grape: 5

OG Kush: 4

Purple Krush: 4

WOW: 4

Dr. Who: 2

White Russian: 2

Cali-o: 1

PKOMG: 1

1 hopeful SnowCap clone?! (would actually make 35, but its not going to flower with the rest if it lives...so the official count is 34.)

Anyway, enough rambling..let get to the good stuff! I got a lot of pics..went a little nuts with the camera I guess. Oh well.

By the way, I have that clone set so that it is actually getting about 350 ft candles were it is through the plastic..so it should be enough.

Anyway, late....half hour to type all this out, resize images and then upload in an orderly fashion. I still got some shit to do before bed.

Hope you all enjoy the update as much as I do. Now that they are out of that shock they have really taken off. Ok...should have another update within a week or so.

Take it easy guys. As always, comments/suggestions are welcome.

~Statik~

Looking very nice my friend, just one quick question for you - how sure are you that the plants are being underwatered?

I ask because that's one of the most uncommon issues that weed plants have (people loving them to death is much, much more common), and it looks to my eye like those plants are exhibiting all the classic symptoms of too much water, not too little - just throwing it out there, looks like the soil's pretty dry in some pics that I see.

Regardless, looking good kid.

I say underwater because thats the first time I have watered them in a week. Not only that, but when I shove my finger down in the pot...I mean a few inches too..its only a little damp. Plants will fringe like that at the edges when they are over watered, yes. They will also do it when they are trying to transpire and there isn't enough moisture in the buckets to let them. (fun fact of the day lol)

My fringing etc stopped the last time I watered (a week ago) after I let the buckets dry for the week before. It started again just the other day (fringing etc)...so not enough water. Or do you see fault in my logic Bob? lol. I should also mention..pics were taken right AFTER I watered. I also added a bit of extra soil to some pots...which is why some would look drier others.

However, I do not like the soil I am in. It drains ok I guess..but not quick enough IMO. I am INDEED going back to 100% CoCo next time around. If I have to wait about a week between watering when plants are this big...the soil isnt draining right. Which is why you may be seeing some over watering signs Bob. They do wind up sitting there kind of wet for a few days till the bags start to dry out.

Mind telling me which pics in particular you are speaking about? I will keep a closer eye on my watering..but I still think I am ok. Some plants DO have some windburn etc like I posted before...need to get all my fans etc hooked up properly. As soon as the hydro store gets my reflectors glass right!!! Damnit.

Basically the top five - all have that droopy, my roots are suffocating-ish look to them.

Of course, I haven't touched soil for ten years (save for peppers and tomatoes outdoors), so take that for what it's worth.

Oh that? They are drooping cause they wanted water bro. I had literally watered them about 5 minutes before I took pics. You should see some of the roots that have found their way out the bags man. I'll see about getting some pics of them "sitting pretty" later on to show you what I mean.

Not stepping on any toes bob. It was your setup that helped me decide which way to go.

i got a 4x4 hydro hut silver edition..i wanted to run both my 600w air cooled systems in it but i dont think the ceiling will hold it..pluss i need to add a fan to cool the hoods and another fan with a filter!...btw ur plants are loooking better every time i see them! :D

BOB- thanks for the videos dude! :)

Well, I know that the Silver Edition is actually pretty strong. A 4x4 Silver is exactly what I have Gnome. Now, I havent done it...but I honestly think I could hang myself from that ceiling. I weigh about 160 lbs. The poles are made of some pretty decent steel. I would just add stuff in slowly and see how bad the ceiling sags. I do know that I can grab the poles and pull damn hard on them and they dont flex that bad at all.

yah dude i did a ceiling test after i had the hut together..i just grabed the middle of where the poles cross and gave them a nice pull..i dont think i could hang from them but they are most def. strong for thin steal poles!....like u said though,im just gunna add things slowly and see what works out..im not to worryed about the fans..but the damn carbon filter is heavy man! i guess our huts have a ceiling rate of 125 pounds..ima most def. gunna be putting that to the test! i'll send u a pic and show u how i set mine up once its all done..might be a while though i need to go buy a few things! thanks for the help bro! and im tuned into this thread for sure! :D

Yeah, like I said...I havent actually hung from the ceiling. That would just be kind of dumb wouldn't it? You get my point though. What size filter do you have by the way? Mine is just a little guy. 4inch Phresh filter. It's not really that heavy.

I have two 6" fans, a large reflector, an oscillating fan, and my filter hanging from the top of my tent.

I think the tent can probably hold everything you can throw at it, honestly (I wouldn't hang from mine, I'm 6'3 230).

we should make a hydro hut thread for ppl with some pics and show how we have our shit set up! i'll start one once i have all my shit set up! :)

"sorry for the slighty off topic shit in ur thread"

No worries man. I actually love the idea. I mean, there are so many other threads like that on here. I have noticed a lot of people have questions about how to set them up...so why the hell not?

Anyway, I just got those pics I mentioned a few posts up. Plants are sitting much happier today. Still some that look a bit funny (mostly from previous issues), but I will take another hard look at them tomorrow in person.

Hey Statik, I meant to mention to you - any reason you don't just go to a hardware store and have them cut the glass for you?

That's what I did when I broke my glass, accidentally.........

Thank you very much dangledo! Your plants are looking quite nice.

I was going to do that Bob. Then I said to hell with it and just upgraded my reflector today to the Sun System Yield Master II. I had the old Yield Master model that they don't even make anymore. Which is exactly why the Hydro store had a hard time getting my glass right...go figure. While I was there I picked up my 6inch inline, and ordered another one as well. So I will have a 4inch for intake, 6inch for filter/exhaust, and another 6 inch dedicated to cooling my 600w HPS. Picked up 6 inch insulated ducting as well..gonna need it.

So I am just waiting on my new ballast to arrive, already bought and paid for. Hydro store called the supplier while I was there and said it should be there Friday. So...sounds like my room may go into flower this weekend depending on how they look health wise at the time.

Oh, realized that the Neem Oil I bought before did not say it was cold pressed. From what I remember when dealing with bugs etc..I want cold pressed Neem. So I picked up some actual Einstein Oil today. Damn tired of these Gnats...so done with soil already. Would have gone with straight CoCo (like I had planned), but the store just opened and didnt have it when seedlings needed to be transplanted. So I just went with something that had CoCo in it...too bad it has bugs too!

Anyone ever deal with a BAD Gnat problem and win the battle? How did you do it? My issue isn't horrible, but it's some info I would like to have on hand just in case.

Firstly, congrats - sounds like your ventilation is going to be top notch

Now, for gnats - not sure if it's the same in soil/coco etc., but a little bit of SM-90 in my reservoir knocks those fuckers out the box. I'll also spray them with a $5 bottle of organic insecticide/miticide/fungicide that I got from WalMart - they went from being a large annoyance to me never seeing them.

Also, glad to hear you're going to be flipping the switch soon - I just did for the first time in a decade, it's nice ;-)

Alright, I am not playing with these damn gnats anymore. Ordering some Nematodes...1 million of them for about $27. I will continue to spray adults etc, but I want to kill the bastards where they are doing the actual damage. :finger:

Ok, I burned my plants again. The only thing I can think of is my soiless mix is pretty hot. I fed 1/4 strength and they were fine. They grew, I watered (no nutes), they grew, I upped the nutes to 1/2 strength and now I have some pretty bad burning. :cuss:

Its not pH this time. I know my pH is between 6.3 and 6.5 in most of my buckets. So I grabbed the FloraKleen again and ran that through them after pots dried a bit. I also hit them with a bit of SuperThrive to help them bounce back from the stress. However, since FloraKleen does such a GOOD job of flushing shit out...I had calcium/mag def's show up. So, I mixed up a light foliar feed of CalMag+ and hit them with that...now that issue is fixed as well.

I was actually worried about a few plants there. From what I hear today though, the burning has stopped..the defs have stopped and plants appear to be on the rebound again.

Had lots of yellowing/necrotic spots etc...made me VERY sad. New (lower) growth was hit hard on some plants.

I should have some pics of whats going on before the night is out. (I hope)

Alright, uploading some pics before bed. I have a good number of them because I wanted you guys to see what the hell happened here. I must admit, I am the main reason these plants are going through so much crap.

I am not used to having so many nutes already down in the medium. I think I will have it under control now though.

So, first pics are going to be of some of the worst plants of course. Then moving on to general health of the garden. I went through and tagged all the plants that were showing pretty much ANY kind of issue, then noted what the issues were so I could see how they are progressing.

Things did degrade a little more after I ran the FloraKleen. However just from looking at these pics I can tell you that they are looking much better. Glad I caught it when I did. Much worse and I would have been pulling some plants (still might yank some).

I have my fans/filter set up now. I am going to attach hose clamps to the 6 inch fan/filter later (forgot to snag them with the ducting). You will also see the 4 inch intake on the floor next to some old drip system and new tubing (for a new drip system of course).

Besides the burning etc, the plants are looking much happier than they did a couple days ago. A few of the smaller plants were very yellowed and color is pushing back fast. Even some of the newer lower node growth I thought was going to die is actually looking 80% better.

Wish I could end this on a happier note than "At least I didn't kill them" ....but hey...

At least I didnt kill them. :wall:
