I wouldn't even respond to anyone posting anything comparing other types of lights. This thread was started just to show the grow. People have reasons they do things and they shouldn't have to explain. I hope this grow does very well, LED is the wave of the future. I wish I could do a LED grow, heat is a big negative to me when growing and is one of the main things on my mind. Fires happen all the time when people grow and with the LEDs that should be cut down to almost zero. Also, no chance of water hitting that hps bulb and exploding, no bulbs to replace, less watering, less cooling, if you leave home alot and leave them unattended you can feel better knowing your tops may not grow too close and burn, etc etc. In state legal grows insurance companies that look at the house first will not even insure you if your running mh or hps and not sure the legal part if your house burns down and they find out you were growing and it caused it. Good Luck!

Exactly. This guy is doing us all a favor and biting the bullet and paying the extraordinary cost of these lights and then letting us all know how it goes and giving us some valuable information and all these idiots can do is talk shit. It amazes me more and more everyday how ignorant some (most) people are. I am very interested in this new technology because I live someplace where it is 90 degrees in the winter and with HID there is no way to keep the heat down in the summer unless you have some crazy air conditioning. Air-cooling the lights doesn't do much good when it is 120 outside. The CFLs and 150hps in my veg closet make it 95 even with a 180cfm blower moving air through it. I have been wondering about which lights work the best and if you pump the room full of enough of them (regardless of the cost), if they will perform as well as a hps. So thank you very much big and keep us posted on the grow. If I can figure out how to subscribe to this thing (not a ganja fourm nerd) I will.

i dont mean to hate on led's but the first grow i ever did indoors i had 2 red spectrum 45w led's on the sides of 1 plant, then a 90 ufo led red spectrum on top. i let it flower for 10 weeks!!!! off of all that money i spent on that led bullshit i came out with less than an ounce of dank.. the bud was really resinous and crystally and tasty but not worth the investment for it. you should consider going cfl. you will get much better light penetration way lower cost of lights. and if you use them right you will get decent yields.

Just sayin... was your first grow. Were you expecting to be a pro?

you should consider going cfl.
as far as I'm concerned, if your hating on LEDs but promoting CFLs this is a lateral move AT BEST. I've never owned LEDs, but from CFL to HPS is a huge difference.

Keep doing what your doing BK, I dig it and I'm running mutiple hundereds out the door in electric costs from my hid :P

seems like it wouldve helped to throw a little blue and orange into that spectrum

KUZ, you have enough watts to do some damage- If you have the mad skillz to at least pull off a half gram per watt. Thats the metric that matters... I have no idea how other growers have fared- 1 g/W is the standard though.

Go flip through my profile stats... read the led threads i was involved with back in time for a little more info about led growing than you espouse currently, there are some good tips.

I really hope you can get them colas to fatten up man.

:)

I'll bet its piss poor for flowering... (truly shit, low flux leds.)

-And importantly it does not have the coverage of 2 1k's.

i doubt it's "piss poor" seeing as they make these lights the exact nanometer wavelength that plants require for flowering. but overall the technology is just still too new, underdeveloped, and expensive to replace HID lights
