thanks for that chart, by the looks of it it looks like you are better off veggin wit 6000K t5 bulbs that the 6500K eveyone is saying to use (its just more common)
I lined up the 6000 K with that big valley between the two humps so I'll still stick with 6500 K as the best light available.
I'd love to have a couple of MH (or CFLs for that matter) lights one with a 5500K and the other with a 6500K and compare to a single spectrum grow.

what amases me is that MH bulbs (the standard ones they use for comercial lighting) seem to be rated around 4000 kelvin. that spectrum is useless to plant growth...yet hydroponic stores sell you these bulbs, the enhanced spectrum bulbs are rated between 6000-7500 kelvin and on the warm side as low as 2700 kelvin but the cheap starndard mh bulbs are 4200 kelvin. i think that ridiculouse

the bulbs are dirt cheap so they can make their system look like a good deal and for a new grower they appear to actually work well. Until you grown with both you won't believe the huge difference there is with 6500K light.

I would recommend you go with T5s. You'll get better light distribution and more healthy plants. I recommend you get a balanced spectrum of lamps.

I have 2 of the 4-bulb 2-foot New Wave HOT5's with mixed spectrum. I'll get some pictures up of the T5 flowering. I'm pleased with the results.:weed:

No journal; just some pics of Blueberry, White Widow, Strawberry Cough and Dutch Dragon vegged, flowered and harvested under HOT5's.

4 more pics to post for now. have others in veg, harvest germinating, closet view, etc.
the pics look great, amasing results from those 2 fixtures
i was expecting bushy lst or a plant the got topped like 4 times but those are massive plants, do you suplement any light to get light down to the bottom branches or do you prune them off or just let it grow??
do you mind uploading a pic of a full sized flowering plant thats around its harvest time so i can see how big they get?

you should get a journal or picture album up

Thanks! I'll get a pic up of the whole plant in flowering.

My buddy just got a great deal on a 4-ft., 8-bulb Sunleaves HOT5 that has 432 watts (8 x 54 watts) and will put out way over 40,000 lumens. This will definitely compete with, if not do better than the 400 hps; more in line with the results from a 600 hps.

HOT5's are turning out some great grows.

I have a second flower room with a 400 hps in it now. If I had another HOT5, I would use it instead.

Not a true comparison grow, different strains and elbow room in the rooms.

i wanna see how big your plants got while you where flowering them under your lamp

t5 HO fixtures do a great job, they dont have nearly as much penetration over a distance as HID's but with lst or scrog you can use t5's to flower with great results

if i was going to flower with t5's id end up buying more fixtures and have 3-4 of them surounding my flowering babies on all sides and one on the top (or maybe just use my 250 hps on top)

I'll disagree with the penetration issue. My HOT5's can rest right on top of the canopy and no heat burns. The light is actually brighter from the T5 than the hps. I'm starting to call bullshit on HID penetration over HOT5's.

I have another buddy who has grown for over 20 years and uses HID. We traded some bud; he was more impressed with the density of the T5 nugs to his 400 hps nugs.

Light penetration is an issue even if you are using 1000 watts overhead. I do use some cfl's for botton and side lighting if there is room. Two is the most cfl's I've had as supplemental lighting.

I have nothing but love for my T5's. Looks like they are well worth it to me. Thanks guys for sharing your successes with us!
