i started a few seeds last year using the paper towel method..it worked well and the seedling reached probably three inches then the leaves wilted and they died, before i attempt another try i just want to be clear on a few things, when are the seedlings big enoug for direct sunlight? I feel like the sun may have killed a few of them..also i have a 1000 watt hps when would they be big enoug to go under it? Also i used miracle grow seedling and after reading on here am seeing that may have not been the best choice, could that have been the problem?

...and i'm not being a dick, you REALLY need to read this book to get a firm foundation or you set yourself up for another failure.

I would be willing to say a seedling is born ready for direct sunlight.....
As far as HPS they need time or they will dry out.

my experience is that they don't need more than one well placed CFL bulb for the first couple weeks. I'd just keep them indoors for longer next time.

Already read a similar book cover to cover it just seems like this simple part got lost in all the details...just couldnt figure out why after an afternoon in the sun all my seedlings wilted when the concensus seems to be more light the better

What happens in nature? Does the sun kill all young plant matter? Did you let them dry out too much maybe?

sadly, seedlings are fragile little bitch's, lol. ...my first try i popped 30 and killed them all so i popped 30 more and only 5 of those survived, ...sometimes experience is the best way to learn and it's why i always recommend that new growers learn their chops with free bagseed.

anyway, no, when they are in the seedling stage you want low light conditions, ...you can put them where they can get sunlight but not DIRECT sunlight, they won't be ready for direct sunlight for at least a couple weeks from crack.

...in time you'll be able to tell when they are strong enough just by looking at the main stem, when they are in the seedling stage that main stem is very thin and wobbly but within a couple of weeks you can see it stiffens up and becomes more stable, this is the beginnings of the vegetative stage.

Thats so true, it sucks, man nothing makes you feel like an idiot like popping so many only to lose them all...ill give it another try thanks for the info..

you're welcome man and don't let it get you down, ...just remember how many times you fell off the bicycle before you learned to pedal, lol.

...really man, don't let it get you down, ...every failure, every setback is a learning experience and those are the experiences that teach you the most. ...if you just keep at it you WILL succeed, guaranteed.
