A Few Questions On My New Seedlings

Hi yall,

so my first is question has to with my crooked seedling. Seems like the plant is growing out of the soil in a weird, almsot sideways manner like that .....r......

the second question is about watering. I put my seedlings in a 2 gallon pot, now when I water, do I need to water the whole pot? I'm just wondering whats the use in puting so much water when the roots are probably like 1 inch deep?

Thank you all for reading this post! :joint:

i would be willing to bet tht your seedling roots go down more than an inch. in the way i grow after two weeks out from seed coat being in a 8 inch deep pot i get roots right to the bottom, i know this because i transplant then , but then again tht is in the way i grow. jst my 2 cents. and as to the seed some jst r bad seeds and grow funny i have had a few jst like how yours is.

It's best for the seedlings to start in a small pot, then graduate to bigger ones as they grow, but no, you don't need to water the whole pot. just a little will do your babies.

lol. noobs.

Always water to saturation. This ensures an evenly moist media and the runoff will remove buildup. Then you allow the media to go nearly dry from top to bottom. This encourages the roots to seek out moisture and develops a mature system. It may be 7 days between the first and second watering in a planter that size holding a brand new seedling. The rate of evaporation is tough to predict. What you'll want to do is lift the planter every day to determine how heavy it is. When it becomes REALLY exceptionally light when you lift it this proves that there is little moisture in the media and it is time to water again.

Obviously you don't want the plant to suffer, so this takes a little timing, because you want the soil dry enough... but not for so long the plant suffers and wilts. Though if it does wilt a little water will bring her right back.

Building strong roots is the most important thing to work on with young plants. Watering too frequently is the number 1 killer of plants in new growers gardens.

To help your stems grow strong you need a circulation fan, oscillating, to "wiggle" the plant a little with a gentle breeze. This encourages the plant to build a strong stem in order to keep the plant upright. You also want your light source nice and close to keep the stem from stretching too tall.

Hey smart guy. I have provided links to plants in progress, and bud porn, in my signature. I guess it'd be asking a lot out of you to back up your own claims. Writing checks you can't cash dude.

I also would never plant in such a large container again. The aeration of the media keeps the roots from drowning, not small and frequent waterings. The tap root will continue to grow down before really extending out. So, despite the top 3 inches of the media being dry the plant still has plenty of access to water.

If the bottom of the media is dry the roots will be exposed to too much air and not be encouraged to grow outwards and fill the planter. The tap root will stretch downwards as the media begins to dry out, but the moisture will still wick from the bottom of the plant upwards to feed the roots as the branch out from the tap.

Over watering is 100% frequency and aeration. It is not how saturated the media is. Once the soil is wet, it is wet. Thinking that watering a young plant daily in a large planter with a cup of water is a good idea only demonstrates further how little you actually know. This is exactly how a person drowns a plant in a large planter. As someone who already claimed to never do this I am not surprised at your ignorance in the matter. Your 1000's of plants can suck it.

YOUR A REAL FUCKING HELP TO NEW PEOPLE ASSHOLE!!!! what u should have done insted of making your smart ass comment noob is said "well BULLA imo " but no u had to be a dick ..and no i have not ever put a seed in a 2 gallon pot but i have done a pot to big for a seed and i know what happens ..IMO yes IMO he needs to water that plant like a small plant for at least 10 days before he goes and fills a 2 gallon pot of water come on the fucking thing just sprouted ...... NOT HERE TO FIGHT IM HEAR TO LEARN AND SIR U HAVE TAUGHT ME NOTHEN! But u go on starting post with that kinda attitude towards people cause YOUR THE MAN .

ur plant might have done a double turn before sprouting, in any event it will correct itself. Do yourself a FAVOR, take them out & put them in smaller containers, as soon as u can which should be about a week from sprouting with little to no stress, either to little pots or party cups for at least another 2-3 weeks. U r only inviting trouble with watering & like previously told, u never plant seeds or small seedlings in a pot this size.

i have long since blocked that member so I can no longer see his posts, unless I choose to, which of course I don't; thus why I blocked him. So don't sweat it. I read ur comments, & of course ur absolutely right that even trying to advise watering in a big pot for a seedling is ridiculous. That's my opinion as well.

Water to runoff, allow to dry out. Repeat. Exceptionally simple and it works very well. Please take a look at my grow journal, located in my signature, to see the results of that process on young plants for yourself.

Doing anything else is up to your own discretion. Don't trust post counts of course. You can always take a look at the recent posts of any given person. Feel free to check mine for yourself. I found a good one of "Bulla's" for you if you were interested to see what kind of a grower is advising you.

dont trip there is always drama and bullshit between people everybody has there own opinions..what i do is just water enough to where i start getting a little runoff out the bottom but remember to water your pot even all over and next grow you should start your plants in some party cups, i use coco coir starter plugs then after they pop and i see the root at the bottom then i switch them to the cups and work your way up to bigger pots.. happy growing

Well my 30 plus day old clone rooted last night i swear funny u should say that ...That lil fucker took forever and i do about 75 clones a month never ever saw shit like that....Almost 6 weeks .Told wife last night check this shit out a root .....yep im gonna clone that lil ice plant when i make it a mother just to see cause im always doing test and that may be one tough great producing mother... now u made your point ,heres mine....My family has a huge farm market with green houses loaded with seeds it takes hours to hand water with wond. By the age of 12 i watered these yes i hated it but i did .Well we only watered the top layer never soaked them. now i have soaked many small trays and i got my ass ripped by my grandfather so i learnt to look at plants and learn when they need to be fed. U got to know by looking at it and seeing the dirt not by picking up a container and knowing its weight..Sure its quick & accurate for the most part but u cant do that when your growing outdoors.. If u have a veg garden, u look at it and say well it needs water or damn that was alotta rain those plants are way to wet...You water your plants so they leach out cause u dont know how to read your plants like i do ....NOOB im not . Here im trying to get the guy to learn when his plants need water so when he see's his garden outside he can diagnose it like he would a sick plant .What u are teaching him to do is through causion to the wind and fuck learning the proper way of diagnosing your plants, but water the shit outta them cause its easier that way. If i over water ill just let them dry up...lmfao u still using your moisture meter? I was gonna end this but that last remark about my clone i needed to point out. I would ask for your opinion on that but no! i'm not saying u cant grow i saw your picks and there ok but calling someone a NOOB outta the blue just to be a dick is uncalled for!!! We are all here to learn .so far in the last month i picked up on willow bark, molasses, clonex never used it always used root tone powder ,oh my favorite the guy that made a desk into a grow cabnet lmao.... i dont need to i have enough room, but im now taking a chest and gonna convert into a 4 plant breeding chamber lol ...So im here to learn and not fight with u or anyone else... I hope the schooling i gave u was educational and goes to good use. I wish i would have read your journal from the start u know when u had your problems i would have scooled u then too ,u know just to help out the noobies...... GOOD LUCK IN YOUR GROWS ...AND MAY U HAVE MANY BUDS
