Anyone from uk know if this import charge is legit??

Paid alibaba in full total cost was 250 pound for 2 240w qbs. Including shipping. Got a message from UPS today saying I need to pay driver or pay now an import fee, £63 pounds. I thought paying for shipping would include all costs? Can anyone from uk let me know if you ever had a import charge?

Its 20% of the total value which I think includes shipping but could be wrong.
Then there may be a handling charge on top of that which is usually around £15

You pay import on everything outside the EU. Some items are exempt . You can look it up on HMRC website

It will change now we are not in EU, dependant on trade deals, but that wont be for a long time.

The fee can be reduced by asking the seller to reduce the amount on the invoice before ordering, though you cant take the piss because they will inspect and revalue it if they think your having their eyes out.
Its also illegal and the buyers responsibility to ensure the invoice is accurate. Which is odd.

Ah shit, you’d think the supplier would have mentioned that in the total cost? I’m gonna try hit them with paying for it, think I’ll say I want a refund and not gonna accept the parcel otherwise, the savings aren’t quite what you think once the shipping was added and now this? , don’t get me wrong even if I pay for this I’m still getting 2 lights cheaper than 1 light from say hgl, oh well waiting on reply from the supplier. See what they say about it. Thanks mate

Just read it all on the hmrc site, the courier sends out the fee, so yeah it looks normal, but still, for some reason I just thought when I asked totall shipping cost this would be included, haha, I’ll do my best not to pay fingers crossed they’d rather pay that than deal with the refund etc.
