There no reason to buy cree cobs right now, especially considering vat. Bridge and citi both have better and cheaper cobs right now.

Which ones do you recommend? And where should I get them from? Looking for UK suppliers for all my components right now.

Yeah mate
In the process of making one too. Got all the parts. Making 200W with 4 citizens clu048 1212 and Meanwell HLG 185 C1400.
Would be done sooner but I destroyed 1 chip whilst soldering :/ so ordered a new one and some holders so i dont have to solder.
Looked for ages for the parts and would have to get from all over the world which takes long time. Got my chips from eBay guy in Estonia. Meanwell from TME in Germany everything else in uk. EBay for wire. Screwfix for some aluminium angle. Rs components for holders. amazon for heatsink and fan (artic) didn't want to pay heavy postage for pin heatsinks and there price is quite high. Wanted a low budget.

For 100w system with 2 cobs coukd
How much did that set you back mate? Total
Cobs £45
Driver £55
Aluminium frame £6
Wire £2
Thermal Paste £3
Holders £8
Heatsinks and fans £28
Using an old 12v charger for powering fans but can get driver for couple quid.

So all in less than £150 For 200W of COB's.

Prices not the best over here but still a pretty decent setup fpr the cost.

Yeah most of it is over priced but them lights are not exactly a bit of L profile and cpu heat sinks though. Some nice lights on there if you cant diy like. Its ebay too so never pay the full price

I just did a few 200w 4x 1212 cob kits to mates with every thing for £220 delivered. Thats with pin heatsinks, hlg185-1400 driver, ip67 connectors, the lot.

To be fair if i had to do it again I wpuld go with quantum board style / mid power led strips because of the cost and space taken by heatsink / cooling.

I thought the prices were ridiculous. I ended up going for 200 pounds worth of 315w CMH. Two of them have dominated my vertical grow. Benefit for me is that cobs only shine in one direction.

If you were to do wattage/cost though you'd have 400w cobs for 300 quid or you could have 630w of cmh for 400 quid.

Heat from the maxibright kits is a lot though, cobs must definitely run cooler. I think if you're doing a standard scrog, go cobs.

These days its not that tricky getting the kit & building an LED rig. You can get the bulk of the equipment from Kingbrite which as far as I'm aware is still the cheapest option for us in the UK. Cobs, mounting brackets, drivers & heat-sinks all from Kingbrite. Consumables like wiring, shrink wrap etc from *bay.
When I built my panels there were very few pre-drilled pin fin heat-sinks available & were extremely over priced. I had to by chunks of Aluminium heat-sink cut to length & then drill & tap them (a real apin in the arse).
The ease & cost of DIY'ing LED's has dropped significantly so if you have the DIY chops, building an LED rig is a very cost effective option for your grow lights.

Hello again mate, I am New to the DIY led game and want to learn by building a kit myself, I have the basics of electrical work and I watched a few videos and it looks as easy as wiring a plug, if you don't mind can you please send me a list of components needed for a 100w citizen COB system so I can source myself and have a go? I'd be really grateful mate, I totally understand if you don't thou it's a bit cheeky and lazy but I don't know how to match LED with drivers and don't want to get it wrong, thanks in advance, I asked someone on eBay to build me 1 but he quoted me way way too much
