Anybody switch from Maxi Grow To Masteblend? Is it as good as Maxi Grow?

I'm having trouble finding my 18LB container of Maxi Grow. I found it online for $25 more than it usually is. All local stores are sold out. I have heard good things about Masterblend and am considering switching. If you have experience with Masterblend I would greatly appreciate your opinion on the quality of their product.

What about Maxibloom?

From everything I've read, Maxigrow isn't necessary and you can do a whole crop with Bloom. Also look at Megacrop (I've never tried but I considered it - they just took to long to reply to an email lol, or I would have bought it)

if i'm not mistaken, but masterblend is similar to jacks 321 in that you need to add cal nit and epsom.

That is true. However, I use RO water. I already have to add calcium nitrate and epsom salt to my fertilizer mix since I eliminated the overpriced cal-mag liquid products from my regimen. The only thing that would change for me are the ratios. I actually used the 3-2-1 formula for 2 cycles in a row with moderately successful results. These runs were before I installed RO filtration for my reservoirs. I experienced a few odd quirks with jack's that I didn't with the maxi series. Nothing horrible, but enough to turn me off to the product. Strange leaf mottling and smaller flower size at harvest were the biggest dingers. Great flavor and otherwise healthy looking plants before they were chopped, but something was definitely off. I often wonder if my 180PPM tap water had anything to do with it. I wanted to love Jack's and bought a 25LB bag of it along with a healthy stock of calcium nitrate and epsom salt. I just couldn't make it work well.

That's very interesting. I'll read up on this. If that's the case you just saved me some money, because I have a good stock of maxi bloom on hand. Good looking out dude :)

Yep. You won't find many conclusive answers because so many people buy into the multi-nute hype, but you will find sporadic posts from respected/experienced members on a range of forums.

I am just an inexperienced grower sharing my personal experience.
I grew my first two grows with Masterblend, and I thought both went well considering what a Noob I am.
On my third grow I ran into problems, the plant turned yellow/light green on me about 35 days into veg.
I reached out on here for help, and turns out I had a K (potassium) excess. The Masterblend is a 4-18-38 formula, and I was unable to lower the K to correct my trouble. (this my have all been strain related, as the first two grows I did not experience this)
I ordered Jack's 5-12-26 and have changed over to it, in just 3 days I have seen noted improvement.
I may well be able to use the Masterblend during flowering when a higher K should not cause problems.
I have Zero experience with Maxigrow, so no help there.
Good Luck,
WillieP

i thought the masterblend was an almost direct replacement for the jacks 5-12-26 but yeah, the K is waaaay higher. thanks for that info.

For some reason I always forget about ebay when I'm having trouble finding shit. $94.99 for the 16# container of maxi bloom with free shipping. Done and done. I checked out flora nova. It looks like a great (if not messy to handle) fertilizer but that's some pricey shit. $63.99/gallon. The application rate is 1-3 teaspoons per gallon. With a 30 gallon reservoir using it at full strength I would have to use 450ML at each watering in bloom every other day. A gallon is 3785 ML and some change. 3785/450 = 8.41 days of watering for $63.99. Of course I only water every other day, so that's about 19 days worth of fertilizer. I would need more than 4 bottles to get through 1 flower cycle. That's rough. Out of a 16# container of maxi bloom @ 174 grams per 30 gallon reservoir I would get 41 days worth of watering. At every other day that's about 82 days worth. I'll do the math on flora micro and bloom tomorrow in gallons, but they seem to be about the same value as the maxi series. $38 for a gallon of flora micro and $20 for a gallon of bloom on amazon. I want to do the math to see if I bought 2 gallons of bloom @ $40 and a gallon of micro @$38 how many res changes I would get. I might try to rub a couple brain cells together in a minute to see what it comes to.

try adding a kelp and humic mix to your maxibloom. the floranova has humics ( i don't think kelp though). i used to use BioAg Cyto Plus but it went up a lot in price. i just got a 1lb bag of "extreme blend" from kelp4less.com kelp, aminos, humics and fulvics in a soluble powder for hydro. good price too. should be here Saturday

I was thinking of ordering that same blend but I saw the NPK was 12-0-6.

Going to end up getting Floralicious Plus and testing it out in my hydro setup. I think recommended is an ml/gal. Should last quite a long time.

holy crap. i didn't notice that. hmmm. looks i might order something else. that's way too much N. the BioAg was 0-0-4 ( i think)

thanks for posting that!!
ya i think bioag only has humic acid and kelp thats probably why.

look into the humic 5-2 blend from kelp4less. its also 0-0-4. I just dunno how gunky itll be in hydro. Thats why Im just going for to try Floralicious+...Ive read its not that bad for hydro.

yep, i looked at my bag in the garage. it also has a trace amount of some micronutrients too. it worked well, dissolved well, etc. guess i should have looked at that extreme blend more carefully. oh well, my veggie garden will love it.

so what would be the source of the N? the aminos ?

i'll check out that Floralicicous too while i'm looking.

ya its the aminos 100%. floralicious is kind of pricey but i looked at the ingredients compared to the other humic/kelp bottles at the hydro store ( liquid karma.... b52) it was the most concentrated.

I dont even know if these are worth the effort in a hydro setup tbh. im just going to test it out in a few weeks in a side by side. either the 5-2 kelp humic blend and/or floralicious+ to see if theres a noticeable difference vs not using it.

i put MegaCrop's Sea kelp in one of my rez's a week ago. 5tsp in a 70gal and man it got my crystal clear rez messy real quick. gotta clean all that black messy gunk in the end. but if it helps its worth it.

just some feedbak on the extreme blend: it leaves behind alot of what looks like very fine sand. i'm gonna try it once more in warm water and really shake it up this time and see what happens.

will do. if that doesn't work, i might just try it as a foliar and if not it's going to be used on the tomatoes in the greenhouse. the BioAg stuff mixed up brownish but everything was dissolved.
