i haven't known anyone to use clay balls as a medium outside of dwc - good luck with that lol

i'm in that nervous state of waiting for seeds atm, can't wait!! only gonna dwc one of em tho
Clay Pellets were originally used in Flood & Drain tables.
Like Knickers I like to put an Inch or 2 of pellets on top of my coco. Does wonders for evaporation and also keeps the top few inches nice and dry so as to prevent the breeding of nasty bugs :)

Nah ninj the fella earlier on was talking about using straight clay balls with no hydro or dwc or added perlite or soil. Hand watering. I thought they wouldnt have enough water retention to be effective but thats just what i was reading. I am happy to be corrected.

Just read it again. Maybe he was saying that hydro and clay balls are stupid and backwards. I have had too much cider.

Google ha told me that rentention is good. Lets have another cider.
Yea I just re-read over it & I think I'm trying 2 understand a ripped dispute whilst straight.. So I think i'l stay out of it.
Wud love 2 get equally as ripped but can't unfortunately :(

Oh. I know little about the use of clay balls. I thought mikeGT was having a go at kmoo so was trying to stand up for her as i know she was stoned. Now i am too drunk to dispute but thanks for educating me some more on the use of them. I will stick to soil and perlite.

Talking about bugs. Are these little flea type bugs dangerous? They fly a bit but not very well and die a lot easier than fleas. Just mash em with a finger. They seem to come around after i give the top soil some moisture.

Wat u have there my friend are Fungus Gnats. Their ideal breeding conditions are damp and dark, so to avoid getting them avoid watering before dark. If you already have them then water only in the morning and try to let ur soil dry out really well before it's next feed. Also try removing the top 2 inches of soil and add about 3 inches of sand. It's a Neutral PH and has high drainage so it won't affect ur plants and will allow normal feeding whilst still keeping ur top-soil dry and pest-free.

Oh, & Fungus Gnats feed on the root systems. If they are left to prosper you will notice ur plant will just start to die off unexplainably in some places, then all together :(

I HATE those things. I've found them hard to get rid of in the past. I swear they bite...but maybe that was psychosomatic because I knew they were there....

Cider...nah, me wanna nice hot cup o'tea. Haven't had cider since I was a wee drunkie of 15...when enough of a drink comes out of you backwards and FAST, you just don't wanna drink it forwards again. Same thing with Vodka, yikes canNOT even smell that stuff :spew::spew::spew:

Just googled them. That is definately what are hanging around. My outdoor plant is completely free of them but my little rhino indoors have them. Its weird though as they are under 24hr/day of light. I guess its only a CFL and not really decent enough light to put them off. I starved my seedlings of water for a while and they did disappear to the eye. I just read they lay larvae so any ideas how to finish them off other than my fat digits. My seedlings are small so i presume that strong pesticide will kill them too.

Its my years of living in London that did it to me. I love beer as well but cider is good on a hot day with plenty of ice. I never drank it as a kid. Bulmers is very nice. On that note its time for another. Day off tomorrow as i work Saturdays so enjoying myself.

Uh-huh, very english. I was in the UK for my teenage years. Cider was potent and cheap for our weekly drinks, n every now and then we'd pool our cash and buy 3 or 4 bottles of spirits. Never been so drunk in my life since then! Gone of the drink, just like a smoke.

Hey guys! I'm a wannabe grower from WA, but no one in Perth has any seeds! So I'm thinking of turning to ordering online but I am unsure of the risks. Can anyone who has ordered to Perth from a bank like nirvana tell me what customs here is like? Like what are the chances of having your order detected, and what happens if it is detected? I sort of know what happens but I want to make sure I have my facts straight so I can convince my mum that if my seeds are caught nothing really bad will happen to me (at most a fine) because shes the only thing stopping me from ordering online (got to use her credit card because im still waiting for mine, been lazy with it I turned 18 last july hahaha)

Try something from here
http://www.ehow.com/how_5131368_make-organic-pesticides-ingredients-kitchen.html ?? Lemon juice is commonly used, not sure if it works on flying insects or just crawlies.
Be careful with Lemon Juice.. It works wonders on Spider-Mites.. They can't stand the Citrus. But the thing 2 bare in mind is that it is acidic and has the possibility to burn ur plants& roots :(
Water it down slightly & adjust the PH.
I found that a little bowl of Golden Syrup was enough to attract them over and so sticky they couldn't fly away. Kinda like a 23cent sticky trap.

Na u shud b sweet. Mine got through ok. That was about a year ago tho.
If they r caught then u simply get a letter advising u that the item u were trying to import is prohibted. Other than that u'l b told ur a Naughty Boy & told not to do it again..

haha thanks man! this should be the last bit of information I need if there is any hope of convincing her! Although if anyone else has experiences of the same or different nature this could also help!!!! I'm pretty sure I should be fine though.

What seedbank did you go with? And where were the seeds being sent from?

hahaha well my mum is the coolest person out! Shed also prefer i started growing so I dont keep spending money on 50 bags, I go through them in 2 days so its an expensive habit! Plus she reckons once i get the female plants sorted out and theyre mature enough she can help me clone them so it should be all good once i get some seeds!

That is fucking funny.

Thanks for the help with the bug. I think neem oil is pretty good for spider mites too. The room just coped a dose of mortein surface spray. Not the plants though. I will go to bunnings tomorrow and see what powerful shit they have. The golden syrup i will just eat myself.

Anyone used the mortein window stickers for bug/insect control through a whole grow?

They supposedly give off some fumes to kill insects which is why I'm asking. Plant is doing great but I dont want to go poisoning myself when I smoke.

I'm sure they wouldn't cure a decent spider mite problem alone but the few insects I have seen in my room are dead.
