I'm so jealous Jimmy, I'd love to be heading back to the dam. Take lots of weed related pictures!
As for the lighting schedule discussion from last night, I agree with street in that to say a plant "needs" darkness is misleading. A plant needs oxygen, light, water, space and nutrients. Without these things a plant will be dead before we will need to think about lighting schedules. A plant will not die if left under 24/0 light for a period of time far in excess of what would indicate darkness being critical, and can therefor be said to infact not need dark time.
The only "conclusive" test would be to grow out 2 large samples of plants, one under 18/6 and one under 24/0. Grow the plants out and see the results. If the 24/0 plants don't die/stunt before the 18/6 plants, then it can be concluded that 24/0 is not detrimental. Until that time there is no evidence that 24/0 doesn't possibly have negative side effects, however as said we've already established that within a average plant lifecycle it's fine.
I would however reinforce that there is no conclusive evidence that 24/0 is superior to 18/6 etc and as such I see it as a waste of electricity and useable bulb life. It does have it's benefits as has already been pointed out. Use what fits best with your life and style.
