I'd say the vast majority of it is just down to strain and phenotype. But sufficient lighting definitely increases your calyx to leaf ratio. I use 50w per sq. foot of leds which is on the higher end.

I also keep my lights a lot closer than most and temperatures are important too. If you use leds you want higher temps as the lack of IR means leaf temps are a bit lower than under HIDs.

'Have to add that to the list of "Scary Aussie stuff" for the potential tourists...along with snakes, spiders, scorpions, salties, bushfires, floods, drop-bears, bunyips & bogans...

EDIT: I love a sunburnt country.....& that's coming from an ex-Pom (did I forget to mention tourists???)
