I guess it just comes down to classification etc. I generally see taproots referring to plants that have a specialized main root serving a specific purpose, ie food storage, water storage access to water etc. Like a carrot, or even a lophophora cacctus (peyote).Bullshit on the tap root
Every weed plant I've grown has one main root does it not ...then all the offside feeders/roots etc

I guess you can refer to that initial root that comes out from the seed as the taproot but it doesn't consist of the majority of the root system.
