Auto or Photo? Opinions Plz

So im kind of battling in my head whether or not to place a new seed order and go with Autoflower strains or Photoperiod strains.

My setup is small... 3' x 3' area

My reason for the indecisiveness

I'm impatient :wall: and as tempting as Autoflowering strains are for their short germ to harvest rate i am well aware that almost the same can be achieved with Photoperiod plants if i veg them for a short time...

My other toss up is there are SOOOO many MORE choices if i stick with photoperiod feminized strains.

I've also read that overall quality in the end is more promising with photoperiod plants.

I've been struggling with this for what seems forever now and its kind of giving me a headache lol.

What are others thoughts or insights on this?

The pro's and con's of both auto and photo...

I am loving photos so far. All of the mistakes one makes in veg seem not to affect yield as long as you give then time to recover. Also filling a 3x3 is probably easier with fewer plants using photos. But yeah, always going to be a bit slower I suppose.

Thats what i was thinking... and i just ordered some Strawberry Gum Auto seeds too lol... whatever it was like $28 after currency exchange and shipping. Ill grab some fem photo seeds next and i guess just experiment with the Gum Auto... see how it goes and compare

One of the only thing that worries me with the autos is there's really no room for mistakes without compromising overall yield... but they've still come a long way with autos from say 10 years ago. Thats whats peeked my interest the most i believe

They both are great, but theres no control over autos as for as flipping goes. If my girl is not her best ive learned to keep her in veg until she improves. What if theres a setback? Those first 3 weeks after flips should be the best n healthiest for max yield imho.

I currently flowering an pineapple glue auto and shes a beauty, but sadly my last because of the reason stated above Im picky

I'm old school when it comes to growing... and i think you're right. Should never flip schedule until the plants are at their very best in veg... i should also add that my grow medium is organic... Roots Org soil, perlite and Natures Living Soil. I plan on creating my own living soil but this was just to get me started right away.

I guess I'll see how I like growing out this Strawberry Gum Auto from Advanced Seeds. If it doesn't work out then its a small loss at least. If it goes well then ill look into Short Stuff seeds and Fast seeds... ive been researching and Fast auto genetics seems decent and well Short Stuff has just been reputable ever since Original Blueberry...

Why you don't try 3 autos and 1 pheno? It fits your space. After 2.5-3 months in 18/6 or 20/4 you harvest the autos and after you switch in 12/12 the pheno. That's my plan for my next grow. I will start with 6-8 auto ultimates and 2 phenos in hydro 60L tanks. After 3 months in 18/6 I harvest the autos and keep the room for flowering the 3 months old in hydro. So in 5 months I have to big harvests. Right now I have 14 Glueberry OG autos 62 days old. An impressive strain. It's my second grow

And the next beans arriving are the Strawberry Gum Auto's... hopefully I can get some photo seeds delivered in the same time... guess I'll go order some now. Lol.

The Gum seeds I ordered from PEV Seeds... mixed reviews so we'll see. Been looking at American based banks but they seem waaaay overpriced. Been using the Tude for years so maybe ill grab the photos there and just wait for it all to arrive. Even if it takes a month lol.

But i didn't think of doing this honestly and its a GREAT idea...

Btw... whose genetics did you go with for the Glueberry? I've seen a few breeders with this and is another strain that interests me. Problem is my girl is more of a sativa smoker so to spark her interest I need to stick to Sativa dom genetics for now lol

Dutch Passion 7+7 free all germinated. I think it's a 50/50 hybrid but it smells more like sativa. Most people claim it's a 100% sativa. We will see

So whats the word with Dutch Passion...

Over the years I've seen so much hate for them and their genetics... now I see people growing em out a lot!

Does everyone like them or dislike them? I've been considering their strains but want to be sure before buying. Have you grown out other strains from them? Also who did you buy their genetics from? So many choices

Dutch Passion strains are fine. All the hate you hear is from shills here in the United States that praise some unstable pollen chucked cookie cutter strain from today's breeder of the month while denigrating European breeders that have been around for years and have stable genetics. Don't pay any attention to that nonsense.

If you look at a good amount of the strains being chucked in the United States you'll likely find European roots in their lineage. Dutch Passion has been breeding since 1987. That's longer than some of today's young pollen chuckers have been alive. I call them pollen chuckers because that's what they're doing. They might be making seeds but they're definitely not breeding.

Ahh see i havent been on these forums or in the game for a while til just recently when I decided to reopen an account here at RIU... So im definitely not with the hype of current happenings lol. But everything you said makes sense. Im in the US but I tend to want to trust companies that have been around as long as Dutch Passion, Emerald Triangle, Humboldt, Dinafem, DNA and so on... i was born in 81 so def not a pollen chucker haha.

I remember like 10 years ago when it was scary enough just ordering seeds from overseas hoping customs didn't snatch your seed order and send you a letter telling you to call em if you wanted your shit! Lol. I thought there were way too many options back then! Now there's so many its hard to tryst ANYONE!

Well I'm glad the OG's believe in long standing genetics from Dutch Passion because I just ordered 5 fems of their Critical Orange Punch

I donno man. I for the longest time used exclusively euro genetics. I just didn’t believe in US genetics. Figured the original is best. I actually got tired of how lackluster the genetics were. Not bad...but always just ok. I believe Dutch passion was the last euro pack I popped. In any event I figured I would give a US breeder a shot about 5 years or so I haven’t looked back. I just think they lost a ton of their original genetics through raids and stuff and they just haven’t really kept up with the US stuff. Plus a ton started outsourcing seed production...maybe it’s changed recently but I haven’t seen anything that makes Me want to try any of it. That being said I guarantee that there has got to be decent offerings. But it’s crazy how good even the “pollen chucker” stuff is so why bother.
