Auto vs photo

Hi all,

I'll be growing my first auto plants next year, and I've been wondering if there are any differences in effects between the photo and auto strains when it comes to effects. Not growing or yield, but how they smoke.

For example, if I grow some Sour Diesel and some Sour Diesel auto from the same breeder, will I be able to tell the difference?
I don't really care if I can, so long as it gets me high, but I'm curious.

Anyone have any experience they'd like to share?

Thanks

In my experience which has only been outdoor growing yes. My og kush auto did not taste nearly as good as my photo.

I do think the additional veg time matters greatly for the final product. Getting it dialed in before the shorter hours of light come imo has alot to do with the grade of pot we get.

With a more controlled environment it may be different but again that veg time imo matters.

With only 3-4 weeks before flowering you need to be super spot on with the autos with no fuck ups.

And we are human. We fuck up.

I doubt you will notice a huge difference but you might. Autos are bred with Ruderalis, Ruderalis is a crappy Russian weed with no real good characteristics other than it flowers automatically without a light schedule change. So by incorporating that gene into a photo they can make it flower on it's own but you do lose some potency and such. I am guessing how much depends on how much of the Ruderalis gene it takes on. Auto's can be great but I think over all Photo's are better quality.

All right, thanks for the responses guys. I'll stick with my plan of a mix of photos an autos. I grew all indica and indica dominant hybrids this season, so I'll be doing mostly sativas next season.
Btw, does anyone remember how long it takes for the like button to appear? I thought it was 3 reactions, but it's not there yet.

No clue but I'll throw you a like in hopes it unlocks it for you.

Will you have seperate rooms for the auto's & photos....because if you are growing both in the same room the auto's won't reach their full potential running your lights at 12/12.....so best to grow all auto's or all photos unless you have seperate rooms

Auto's do best with at least 18/6 but preferably 20/4 or 24/0

I grow outdoors. Electricity is pretty expensive around here and between the lights, ac, and dehumidifier, it just didn't make sense to keep going indoors. These days I just use the lights to start my weed and veggies before I move them outdoors.

When I grew indoors I could use two rooms, so that would've been fine, but I didn't see any point to growing autos then as I could get a better yield off photos. Not to mention the lights going to 12/12 cut the energy bill a little.

Over the last few years the yields on autos just kept getting better, and with them I can grow strains I could never have had before. I mean the flowering time of Haze is pretty much the length of the entire growing season around here, lol. So I'm giving them a shot. If I can grow them well, then I'll probably keep going with the mix of autos and photos. I put the photos directly in the ground, so it's not too hard to get them to yield well.

I got hooked on autos over 15 years ago when the word "autoflower" was almost beyond comprehension....with little or no information, no forums, etc, those little queens were a blast. I like the improvements of autos over the years but the quest for bigger, better has limited how many 'little ones' are still around.
I almost always grow a photo alongside the autos, for shits and grins and to compare potency. It's been a while since anyone actually picked out one from the other. Yes I grow both on 12/12 and have for years. I found long ago that yeild doesn't increase the same percent that cost do and I only grow for myself......potency is not affected by yeild size. so I've not found a legitimate reason to spend more...no where does it say (other than opinion) that auto require more, only that they can handle it.
Costs of growing such as lights, seeds, etc are one time costs but that damned electric is ongoing and perpetual...I don't mind coughing up for a new light or a seed drop but that increased monthly bill just ain't worth a few extra grams.
