I'm glad that you think that you got the point, unfortunately it went right over your head.

You're terribly wrong... I did get the point, and I know that I use things everyday which contribute to the downfall of my planet. However, I am much less taxing on this earth than the majority of others I can guarantee you.

There are trade-offs for everything we do. No, I'm not going to go buy a Toyota Prius to show off how Green I am... but I do drive less, keep my car well maintained and have the emissions brought down as low as possible by doing so.

In a perfect world, at least in my eyes... there'd be no cars or planes or computers. But they are here now, and they are a bittersweet thing for us at this stage, but with further use of technology in the right way, we can reduce our impact substantially.

See, I got the point... :bigjoint:

It was a nice message and all, but I didn't think it needed to be spelled out to me like I'm retarded or something. I've never seen Pocahontas, but I did feel like I had just watched a disney movie - as far as the plot and characters went. The greedy, evil corporate guy; the mean, bloodthirsty colonel... they were flat, completely predictable characters straight out of a kiddy cartoon.

Still, despite that, I did actually enjoy watching it... I just had to try my best to ignore the bad writing and just enjoy it as a adventure movie that was REALLY cool to look at.

I agree with you 100%

Really? You thought it was written badly? I mean granted there were times where it was kinda lame, cliche, corny, all that. But its so true. Us amaerican's think we own everything and have the right to take everything. People for one, dont take the time to appreciate what we have and what we can do naturally. And secondly, as I said, we think we have the right to kick people out of their own area/ enslave people, accuse them that their way is wrong, and take what we want and leave. Its true and its really fucked up.

Otherwise, the movie was great :bigjoint:

I'm with you on the overall message being good. I liked many of the concepts (like the main one: remotely controlled bodies). But the delivery sucked.

I like when characters have some depth. In Avatar there were good guys and bad guys, and there was never any doubt at all about who was who. It's much more interesting when a good guy has flaws, and is possibly tempted by evil. Or when a bad guy has mixed feelings, but feels forced to do what he does for some reason; or maybe once was decent, but circumstances warped him into what he now is. Avatar just hands us these flat bad guys: they're evil, callous, and greedy; end of character development - now it's up to the good guys to stop them from destroying the world.

My son was watching Spirited Away again, and it got me thinking about this sort of thing. It's an animated adventure that seems to be aimed at a younger audience than Avatar's. But the characters and themes are complex, and often ambiguous (in a good way, not distracting). There are no characters that are PURE evil, or PURE good. You might get that impression initially with a character, but then you see another side and find yourself wondering if they really are good/evil, and what their motivation might be. It's the kind of movie you can watch again and see new layers to the characters and themes. Not so with Avatar. I never found myself wondering about a character, or their motivation.
