Berries

Nice.

We’ve harvested and put up about 3 gallons of blue berry’s so far. And about to try and clone some to expand the patch , so if you have any advice for me it would be appreciated.
My blueberries are all still green. I have 2 Chandler bushes. The berries are huge.

You can take hardwood or softwood cuttings. Softwood roots faster. You take a cutting of a new growth tip with 4 - 5 nodes. Scrape off about an inch of the outer layer, dip in rooting compound, and put in peat/perlite, peat/sand, coco/perlite, etc... You want to have a node buried. They should be domed until they start growing new growth. They can take a long time to root so unless they shrivel up and die let them be.

Dude those are huge.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on doing something like that. I am planning on doing this....
1. Cutting as you recommend
2. Clone X gel
3. Black Gold coco plus extra perlite
4. One gallon nursery pots or root riot cubes.... if I use the cubes I can use the starting tray w/dome ..... if I use the nursery pots I could make a dome with a coke bottle.
I plan on putting them in the shade on my deck with daytime temps 85-95f I’m afraid the dome will dry out or blow away or both. My lighting is turned off for the summer and packed away so indoor is out of the equation.

Knowing this ^^^^^ would you go with the cubes or pots .

As always I appreciate your input.

Ohh I also considered getting a large clear tote and placing the pots inside it, maybe even upside down. And I may do it all just to compare lol.

I'd go with pots. That way you can leave them in there while they develop a good root structure.

You could also look into air layering which many use as well to propagate blueberries.

The patch my daddy planted out from his house in the edge of my cousin's pines got hurricaned, then flattened by skidders when the pines got harvested. Now there are thousands of new waist high plants, all full of berries. So if you can spin up a hurricane or rent a skidder . . . . . . . . . .

Due to the hurricane, the 50 yards from the old house to the berry patch isn't easily passable, so we have to walk the long way around where my cousin cleared a path from her side.

Skid steer cloning.......hmmm..... I wander if anyone would think I flipped if I went to LA via skid steer lol.

I didn’t have any luck with air laying the blueberries last year but it worked great on the plums , I used the same methods so maybe the blueberries just want something different than the approach I used. Maybe I just wasn’t patient enough, I’ve been watching yt and found a guy who used the same nursery pots and a upside down clear tote for a dome idea. He got 50% success and said he thought it needed a couple ventilation holes for better results, he also did a miniature mist house with about 95% success. I’m considering the mist house, I’ve wanted one for years but with temps here for months at a time in the mid 90’s and up I don’t think survival is going to happen.

Keep in mind this is outdoors ,no lighting ,no ac , and no misting timer yet , I think c2g has a link for the timer.

Well it’s that time of the year again. View attachment 4850348
Took this pic on Monday and their in full bloom now.
What are they?

But yeah, my berries are starting to bud out as well. The peach tree is starting to bloom also. And just before we get a bunch of days of rain screwing up pollination.

Blueberries. It looks to be a another good year for them by the way they're already starting to bud. They should be happy with the soil. Their little patch has been amended with elemental sulfur over the past few years and they have a good 3-4 inches of pine needles and broken down cones as mulch. They like a lower pH so they should be in a happy.

Tayberries. They've really taken off from that first plant and the clone I started. They're going to crowd out the raspberries on the far side of the structure that you can't really see. Oh well, we like the Tayberries better anyway. I might just dig the raspberries up and put them somewhere else.

Blueberry, I’m sorry.

My peach is in bloom as well so are the plums. One pear is and the moon glow pear is a little late. I took out my blackberrys last year to expand the veggies. So far I have five 10”x20” trays of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and squash.... some are looking pretty awesome and others not so much.

I don’t know if you remember my half ass attempt at cloning blueberry from last year.....well I have two that have lefted out and maybe two more that’s not brown. 2 out of 70 ain’t bad right. Lol

As usual I procrastinated on transplanting blueberries until they are starting to bloom. I did put 4 clumps in 2 holes down at the riverhouse last week. Will see if they take or not. So far they are looking alright.

Looks like it's going to be a good year for the blueberries.

The tayberries and raspberries are filling out and starting to show flower buds.

Strawberries are blooming. I have a bunch on the side of the house as well that have taken over a section of land. They're not really doing as well as I'd like but I'll get enough berries to get sick of eating strawberry shortcake. Somehow I got strawberry plants in the front yard. They're growing along the sidewalk.

Love your garden pics. Looks like a nice spot.
