Whats the best soil for popping beans? Last grow i went from napkin straight to Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil and had some issues that affected overall yeild and potency. Thanks in advance for any input

I have read and I will be trying this soon, that some earthworm castings help, but I think that almost any decent soil will work OK. Some people cut FFOF with regular soil if I were to do my grow over I would have mixed it 50/50 with Happy Frog Soil. I had leaf issues on two of my 4 plants when using FFOF, and many people say its a little hot. I have my own soil blend cooking now and soon I will be adding in 1/4 worm castings, then I will have something to compare it to.

Even if it's a quality soil. It still needs a pregame.
Prepare the pots about two weeks in advance. Water them the first time as if they had plants. Check the PH. Correct if needed. Let them dry. Water again, ph check. By that time the soil has settled. Add more soil. Deal with ph issues before the actual grow.
I've grown in crap soil. I've grown in expensive soil. A lot of success comes from preparing the pots in advance.

FFOF mixed with 25% perlite even River sand if poor
as a plus add more perlite up to 50% then add you own expensive 'canna' nutes
even better in most cases FFOF can be resued with little amending

I always start mine in happy frog soil cut with about 25% perlite.

I start in a mix of 25% supersoil the other part coco. Then transplant to straight super soil. No issues.

+1 and I had good results sprouting with those large compressed Jiffy Peat Pellets that they sell for tomatoes. As a matter of fact I did a few seedlings 5 months ago and watered them with FF Big Bloom and the rooting results were amazing, and that has worm castings, guano, and despite its name it is phenomenal at developing roots. Once roots start protruding into some nice soil they go.

Most ferts with a high P number is gonna encourage root development, that's what P does.
