I grew this from 2 scraps I picked up on my old job about 26 years ago. View attachment 5402484

I read an interesting article last year about Chinese immigrants families who pass around cuttings from dracaena plants often sourced from their relatives who remained in China. Gifted to the young as housewarming gifts and such. Very much a familial practice.
Yeah it's pretty amazing to watch a piece fall on the table and grow roots and a shoot. Our tradition has been to pass it on at marriage or new home. It's been fun because as far back knas I read and remember, everyone had embraced it and I don't know of a family member that doesn't have one.

My family came from Sweden around 1900. My grand dad fought in wwi and operated a drop forge at Crescent Tools most of his life. Raised rabbits to feed his family.
My grandfather came over from Hungary in the 30s with a box of silk worms for pharmaceutical research, and ended up getting a job at the US consulate in Cuba, where he met my grandmother. Grandma ended up getting her doctorate in the 50s and became an anthropologist. A boss move for a lady back in that misogynistic era

In the spring of 1951, my Mom's kin came here from the Netherlands. They lived for a few years in SW Ontario - Wallaceburg and Glencoe - before heading east and settling in Scarborough in 1961.

In the fall of 1955, my Dad came over from Istanbul to train with the Turkish Air Force near Moosejaw, Sask. Summer of 57, the old man made Unwise Choice #2 ... going AWOL from said Air Force.
