Awesome stories. My great grandfather was one of the glider brigade in France during ww1. I can't remember the stories I was told as a kid but I remember being proud of his bravery.

No doubt. But my dad was not the most talkative person with me regardless of whether things I asked about were legal or not. He just clammed up - so I got as much of the skinny about shit as I could from my older sister ...

My family got to NH in 1627 with a cannon, blankets, shovels, axes, etc and opened a store upriver.
Then they bought ~12,000 acres along a salt marsh to grow fodder, commanded the local miltia and cannons for the 150 yrs till the revolution.
They sold off the land, bought a new homestead, and one branch got into ships then oil, another became land agents across NY and Ohio.
Another group found religion, joined the Mormons early with John Smith and moved west, like 56 of them in a wagon train.
My side of the family from the Revolution till now was an artilley colonel for 200 years. I decided to become a pothead instead, lol.

Man. I sure do feel for the people under that thing. Although i lived a bit above lake oroville during our dam fiasco here, i know lots and lots of people who were evacuated for a long time. Crazy shit man. Fingers crossed for all you guys out there.

I had one come up the stairs on the porch, stick his head thru the railing and eat the hanging planter.
Then he went over to the pot plant and ate 3 shoots and some leaves, little bastard.

Worst flood in my time here was the Red River of the North in Fargo and Grand Forks. The Red runs North to Canada and we had an early thaw one spring and Canada did not, nowhere for the water to go. The river crested at 54 feet. Winnipeg had a share of the misery too but it was worse down here. We had just survived our frightening first winter here, so it gave us pause about that choice.
