Busking is a lot of fun. I always recommend all performers give it a shot. It is easy to play when someone hires you, but it takes moxie to play when and where no one asks you to. If you can play through the distractions of the street, car noises, strange people, etc., playing a gig or recital is no problem. I have had some of the strangest, and most beautiful encounters while busking. I have had people take money from my tips, and early on a couple of dudes stole my entire bucket. My instinct was to run after them, but that's exactly what they want. Their plan is to have you run after one of them while the other one stays behind and takes your expensive shit, like your speaker or your instrument. I now attach the bucket to my music stand and other gear, so they would have to drag the entire set up. No one has ever attempted that

Those things are very rare, though. It is almost a spiritual experience to draw large crowds, and have people sit down and surround you in deferential silence, then explode with applause at the end of each tune. It is a great way to get gigs, too. It is cool to talk to strangers that tell you how great you are, how you made their day, then give you money. It was also the best way to meet women. It's my fav way of interacting with people, which is something I don't usually enjoy...
