Brita water filter

Hello RIU

i am currently using a Brita water filter, filling cups up and then letting that water sit out for 24 hrs. Does the brita water filter remove calcium and magnesium? If so is it enough to cause deficiencies in my girls?

As long as you use dolomite lime in your soil, your calcium and magnesium are pretty well taken care of. Also you can add blackstrap molasses in your feeding as well. I am not sure what brita does on filtering.. but it probably does not take too much out.
disclaimer: I have no clue if you are using hydro or similar, other than soil.

"Does the BRITA water filter cartridge remove all minerals from drinking water? The BRITA water filter cartridge only partially removes the hardness from drinking water. This part is temporary hardness, which causes scale deposits during cooking. It does not remove all of the minerals from the water. It reduces the concentration of calcium and magnesium with cation ion exchange resins, but these substances are not completely removed as in desalination systems or industrial plants that use reverse osmosis or distillation processes, for example."

From the Brita web site. If somebody wants to know something it is often beneficial to go straight to the source.

Im growing in soil.. light warrior, happy frog, and roots organic 707 formula and i did not add dolomite lime, how much do you suggest per gallon of soil? im adding some pictures of some young plants with what i think are defeciences. That led me to do some research of brita filters and what not, which led me to see what the good people of RIU thought.

yea i read that already, but it didn't seem to fully answer my question. Saying it removes but not completely. Was seeking a more straight forward answer and any suggestions in relation to cannabis and not cooking or human consumption.

So what are you going to use your cannabis for if not for human consumption?

To me this looks like starting of phosphorus deficiency. What are you feeding the girl?

They're 3 and 1/2 weeks old and i just transplanted them into 2 gallon pots of half happy frog and half light warrior so I haven't feed them anything yet. I have two plants that I fed when they were about 5 weeks with a single feeding of Age Old Grow and Kelp according to online feeding schedule, which was 1 tbsp per gallon. I ended up burning them and so I've been a little skeptical on using it again. Maybe 1/4 strength? What you think. And I appreciate the response!

the brita is a waste of time. it does not remove the minerals, fluoride, chloramines...

By the way, unless you want your water room temp, letting your water sit out is a waste of time. Most water companies use chloramines now. They do not evaporate like chlorine.

if you want good water, get an R/O filter.

I have been adding 7ml per gallon and have not noticed any problems.
I do not know what kind of R/O filter I have, I bought it from a salt water fish tank place 3 or 4 years ago.
I have seen them on ebay for as low as $65.
