Bulk trim to oil

I used two Pyrex dishes. Water in the bottom with the one containing the oil on top. The inside temps only got to 120 max. I read somewhere the boiling point of ISO was 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

it had turned out powdery last night, but it has turned into a sticky, orange, brown sugar like texture. I'm pretty sure there's still water in there, because I gave it plenty of time after the ISO dried up to make sure it completely evaporated, and I'm left with a slight cough and sizzle upon contact to my nail.

also, I ran it for about 6 hours then left to air dry over night.

also, I wanna do a few more trial runs with oakley's method. If I can perfect it, I might just do his bulk method and save quite a bit of loot. Meanwhile, my friends going to build me the terpinators in two weeks when he's back from Colorado.

at last!! My enter key works!!
It's about 181F that ISO boils. Are you using the funnel method allowing no soak time? Its strange you have dark oil with that method, maybe burnt?

The shorter the soak the lighter the end product ime. I have done up to 3 min soaks with yellow or amber color, this also depends on the fine(ness) of your material and if the iso and material is frozen.

In oakley's method, you just pour 1L of ISO for one ounce of material. Then filter. No shake no soak, nada. Upon letting it sit out overnight it turned a dark amber color. I'm going to try the pour and shake method next.

While your pouring its continuously stripping and because your constantly using new iso as it pours out your increasing its ability to pick up compounds that aren't as easily dissolved into the iso...the pour counts as a soak as well, every second iso is touching your bud..ive used the pour through method a lot and always got good quality I felt better, than even the quickest of mason jar soak/shakes or whatever....I'm a firm believer in a non heated evap, light even a house cfl will degrade your product in solution.. iso will also generally pick up a more amber product than the same material in butane. This is because of the differences and properties of the solvents extracting different cannabinoids and waxes....its also important to note some strains produce a red wax and will always be amber unless winterized in that same sense not all terpenes are the same color........

Color is also largely dependent on the starting quality of your trichomes, most people know that the trichs on leaves mature faster than the bud. So a traditionally harvested indica might have all amber trichs on its leaves...I didn't see your product but I assume the trichs were degraded beforehand and its possible your method didn't help.

qk threw me off with the new picture I was like who's this.. lol

@KG I just wanted to be sure you were following it. As your results were strange to me.

On a side note if you submerge don't "shake it". You can gently rotate the container to move the inside once or twice during the soak. Violent shakes will cause the frozen leafs to break up and expose more chlorophyll to the iso.

A good guide imo is 30s for AAA+ 1:30 for A and 3:00 for B.

Is there a specific ratio of alcohol to trim in regards to just dunking it? I'm debating ordering the 55 gallon ISO, or just going and buying 100-200 smaller jugs to just get things started. I figured it'd be far easier doing the process out west, then trying to get a ton of trash bags full over to the east.

Correct, but that was with the pouring method. I was considering blujayz suggestion with dunking. I'm gonna try a sample today and see how it turns out. I'm thinking as long as it's enough to completely cover the material then all should be well

I'm sure someones done enough trials slowly reducing amount to find a minimum necessary to extract or hold in suspension.....but that doesn't make for an efficient extraction

You have to take into account fluid loss in the filter as well as material, the more fluid you use the less cannabinoids you lose..then taking into consideration that solubility rates decrease as it absorbs.. I use about a liter per oz pouring maybe a liter per 2 ozs in a soak in mason jar

I use a terpenator and running 400 lb of trim is over 1000 columns which can take quite a while...You'll probably want several terpenators :)
