WTF now they wanna burn korans in gainsville? As if people dont already think florida is full of a bunch of racists. Besides that, isnt that kind of adding insult to injury? i mean we did invade the heartland of the second largest religion in the world, killed families, destroyed infrastructure and looted/plundered. now they wanna burn korans on 9/11. as if its every muslims fault that that happened. even the pope is like dont burn them korans and they still want to do it anyways. If you wanna fight a crusade against another religion: get a passport, by a plain ticket to the middle east (anywhere is fine), obtain korans and set them on fire. not so outspoken now are you? gotta hide behind your flags? ignorant fucks. I have nothing against the muslim people or any religion for that matter, but these crazy cracker christian cowboys (say that 5 times real fast) are killing me.

well you all know that the mosque isnt really on ground zero, its a couple of blocks away, and its not just a mosque, its a muslim oriented community center. we wouldnt be up in arms if they wanted to build a church right on ground zero, but a mosque a few blocks away hell no. we aint tolerating it. who gives a shit if they wanna build a religious center there? As long as they pay theyre taxes i dont see a problem

they showed clips of righties like boehner equating the quran burning with the park 51 project....they said 'just because you can do something doesn't mean you should'

to which stewart quipped: this pastor is extremist for burning qurans, and the muslims are extremists for reading from it.

I would like to preface this by saying that the Koran should not be burned.

Just because one has the right to do something does not mean it is the right thing to do.

And book burning is what the Nazis did. :evil:

Thankfully they called it off. And the pastor of that church is urging everyone else not to burn Korans on 9/11 either.

The Muslims almost got a taste of their own medicine, insensitivity that is, I say almost because the Koran-burning was only threatened.

But that did not stop the protests featuring pungent goat-herders burning American flags and shouting "Death to America!" and "Death to Christians!"

So the damage is done just by a tiny congregation in Florida planning on doing something insensitive to the 'Religion of Peace.'

Park 51 was damaged by one of the landing gears of one of the Muslim hi-jacked airliners that slammed into one of the towers. Arguably it is part of Ground Zero.

Even if you reject that point, it is a seventeen story building which will overlook Ground Zero. And the Muslims have a long tradition of building Mosques at the site of their Conquests.

And all Mosques are community centers. I will be very surprised if they pay property taxes.

Actually a church was at Ground Zero. It was there decades before the World Trade Center was constructed. A Greek Orthodox church. It was damaged beyond repair, demolished and carted away with the rest of the rubble.

For some reason they cannot get a permit to rebuild.

Do they not bomb places that have a Koran inside? I hadn't heard the military was oposed to koran burning before this...so as long as we dont burn korans the muslims are ok with our troops?
 
I think it's all a double standard. Religion breeds nut jobs. Organized religion has done more to seperate God from man that any other thing in history.
While I think it is wrong that a mosque be built at Ground Zero, I don't realy think it will happen. Even if they try to do it, They will have to provide 24/7 security to keep it from being molested/burned/tagged/or generally defaced.
In the end, They will reconsider the building site, and we will all have to recognize how giving the religion of Islam is.

I guess the 9 worship spaces that were in the old WTC, including one dedicated to muslims, won't be allowed in the 'Freedom Tower'. What would that constitute; a Victory Prayer Room', celebrating the 9/11 hijackers? You people could just as well oppose Catholic churches being built near schools because the clergy have abused so many children.

As for 'Victory Mosques' here's a photograph of what remains of the Temple of the Sun in Cuzco, Peru, the capital of the Incas after the conquistadors got finished building a CHRISTIAN cathedral on top of it. Smells like victory to me.

What about buildings that were synagogues before the holocaust and are now being used as churches? Was it insensitive of christians to set up their places of worship in communities where christians had murdered countless jews? A lot of those christians were german soldiers whose belt buckle read 'god is with us'...

This is just another political stunt by the right to whip up anti-muslim sentiments on the fringe. Remember all those people who think obama is a secret muslim antichrist who wants to destroy america....they vote.
