I don't get it how do you get someones serial number by an online picture? Am I just retarded or am I missing something.

The picture contains exif data and it writes it to every picture taken with that digital camera, so this site scours the internets for other pictures with the same serial. So lets say your growing bud and you post some pics of your babies, you use that same camera to take pictures of yourself or your family. You can then link the pics of bud to the pics of the people by way of the serial number the camera embeds in the data of the photo.

everyone knows that there are plenty of programs out there that delete any and all exif info before posting pix on the interwebs.. :)

Really? I bet a LOT of people DON'T know that every picture ever taken with certain digital cameras are traceable back to that particular camera.

Exactly. I always erase exif data from photos before posting. Once wiped, no exif = impossible to trace back to any source other than identifying things in the picture itself.

This is something all should do, especially since phones now show GPS coordinates in the exif (if you don't turn that feature off).

It will tell you TONS of data on what kind of camera it was taken on. It will say the exact make and model, if a flash was used, how far you were zoomed in, what kind of lens, date/time, etc. and of course like I said GPS coordinates.

Well, I guess then the best way to stay safe is too never leave my camera somewhere that it may be stolen or lost. Not a prob, I have had the same one for about 7 years and it never leaves the house. The only thing I use it for is to take pics of my babies anyway.

That's crazy.. I don't really post pictures on here and now I think I never will!

Also I went through that list.. I didn't see ipod touches or ipads :P but I'm sure it will work just the same..

And actually, besides for growing, this is pretty cool because then you can trace stolen items! If they work on tablets or ipods or even smart phones!

LOL! Anything with the term "Smart" included in it's description can and probably does make the exif data in every picture. Some even include the GPS location of where the pic was taken. Apple was busted because it's Iphones where maintaining a fille of GPS locations and cell towers it connected to. It is tracking your movements! Many cell phone companies were just called out for applications on their phones that can track and log every key press.
With current technology, your carrying big brother in your cell phone, tablet, and even your computer. Suspect everything you post as having damning evidence, from your postings, emails, and photos. IP addressed can be traced and embedded photo info is pretty much solid.
