...yeap, you are right about the leak in alot of those air cooled hoods...I just use reflective HVAC tape around the glass edges to stop it....
...if the cfm of the carbon filter is lower then the cfm of the inline fan....you need a dimmer switch like a few has stated before on this thread or simply get a bigger carbon filter.

get a bigger filter, problem solved. If you look at the can filter website It says that the CFM you are pulling through that filter would be fine if you were using it as a recirculating scrubber but not ok as an exhaust filter. Hope this helps!

Im pretty sure your blower is about 120 CFM so a speed controller could also fix your problem. I would just go with a bigger carbon filter personally speaking

Ok so its been a long while since I posted about this issue. What I ended up doing was buying a Can Fan 33 and a 6" Can Fan mounted directly then a piece of duct that was connected to the exit. ( Scrubber>Can Fan>Duct>Exit ) I made sure that everthing was sealed perfectly. i also added a fan controller and turned down the fan I tried the highest and the lowest setting and it seemed like the odor never went away. I was only growing 4 plants in the GL80 and when I would come home you could still smell the plants. Security was a big issue for me because I lived in a condo. Friends that had no idea I was growing would say " Dude it smell like pot in here " After I completed that grow I decided not to grow again. I even talked the guys at my local shop and they couldn't figure it out...Is there anything that needs to be done the the Can Filter before connecting it??
I had my can filter vertical at first and it worked great and then i put it they you had it on its side at the top of the tent and ever since then it didnt work as well. I think its because the carbon on the inside had moved around and the air wasnt moving thru the filter evenly like it had been when it was vertical.

Hey hummbling maybe you should try a different type of ducting. I've noticed before that if you shine a light into that thin dryer ducting you can see hundreds of tiny pinholes. Take a flashlight and see for yourself. If your fan is pulling harder than the filter can allow you might be sucking minute amounts of air through the tiny pinholes. You could try taping up the ducting or switching to something else.
I had no idea about the duct and holes. I'll keep an eye on that. The frustrating part is the second grow I did I actually used a CanFilter 33 and a 6" Can Fan with a speed controller as well. The fan was mounted directly to the filter then connected a small piece of duct ( the quality plastic/latex type ) that exited the tent. One that grow I only grew 4 plants and people would ask why my place smelled like pot...Im not sure what to do...

Well that blows my theory out of the water. I took a quick look at a utube video of your tent and the only thing i can come up with (other than that you got a bunk filter) is that you had no negative pressure. There's alot of openings on that thing, even when the zippers and velcro are closed they are going to let air in. Did you fool round with the passive intakes at all? If neg pressure was in question i would start with all passive intakes closed then open one each day until odour was detected then dial it back a little. Sorry but thats all i got.
Yes I closed all of them except one and I did have negative pressure. It was enough to keep down the temps but also enough to allow the air to sit in the filter. both My Can 9000 filter and Can 33 did the same. Maybe Can Filters just suck. I may try a Phresh filter

You should send an email to whom ever you bought these filters from and tell them what happened, they should either tell you what your doin wrong or compensate you. Those fuckin things aren't cheap, as i'm sure you know. Sounds like you've probably spent enough money for them to help you out. Although i've never used them all the hydro shops in my city carry can filters, so they must work. If the place you bought them from had a bad shipment of can filters you wouldn't be the only one calling them and they probably already know. It couldn't hurt to ask.
Recently someone described to me a setup where they used they're fan/filter as a scrubber instead of exhaust. They claimed that it was a lot more effective. Maybe you could try that? You could use your other smaller fan with the speed control to move air through the tent, and use your can filter 33/6" canfan for scrubbing the air inside.

So I talked to 2 different local Grow Shops and the both said that the reason that I still have odor is because I should be using the filter as a Scrubber and NOT an exhaust. They said the only time I should be using my filter/fan setup as an exhaust is when heat is an issue and that I should always be exhausting the the air out of my grow area and out of my home because the dirty air will only pass through the filter ONCE and the air won't be cleaned enough to kill all the odor. They also said that if blowing the exhaust out of my home is not an option then I should ALWAYS use the filter as a SCRUBBER because the air will be cycled over and over and the filter will kill all odor. That lead me to ask was what if heat was an issue and what if exhausting the air out of my house wasn't an option... They said that I should use a enclosed/sealed glass reflector hood and I should exhaust the heat from the light itself and I should still be using the odor filter as a Scrubber. The interesting thing is two different grow shops said the exact same thing. That's really refreshing to know...I hope that this information is helpful to anyone else having this same problem because it can be very frustrating...If I ever decide to grow again I'll post the results.

Your fan's supposed to be mounted directly to the filter.
