If my seeds have been sowed for a while but aren't showing any sprouting yet can i dig in the soil a bit to see if the taproot has started to grow then just cover it back up? or is this a nono?

Short and to the point answer = +rep.

Thanks guys.

How would it effect them if i did look at them prior to that? Remember im not touching the seeds, just the dirt above them to check for any growth.

yhou risk breaking off the taproot... this would not be good as your seed would then be useless in most cases. i hav eheard once or twice someone saying taht their taproot broke and then began to grow two the same way the top would but its definitely not worth the risk. dont do it... just wait

i have done that many times planted to deep

i just dig down to top of bean move around a little can tell if connected to tap or not

if not rip and dump prolly dried or rotted

if so drop of water down bean to reset leave uncovered back on heating pad and under light

ive broke roots on germed seeds before and had them still grow so they wont always die. you should just germinate with wet paper towels or toilet paper before putting in dirt. then you know the seeds are good before you even bother planting them and theyll sprout within the day
