Eye 250W 4200K Universal Metal Halide Bulb - 22.99$

No idea what i'm looking for. Are these brands decent, should I be paying more for bulbs if I can afford it? Do the lumens match up to what I need?

btw I am using a 250W Lumatek digital ballast.

Thx for any input :-P

dude as long as your not doing any wiring yourself you more than likely fine as far as fire hazards. my 150 watt puts out 40,000 lumens, its perfect for like 4 maybe 5 plants, the lumens you need a 4800 per sq foot

Hm, another concern: Most of these air cooled reflectors only accept 400W,600W,1000W, etc, but I don't ever see 250W..

ALso, on the ONLY site I can find a 250W Lumatek digital ballast, it says it is "Wired for Hydrfarm Reflectors; please order optional adaptor to accept Sunlight Reflectors"
Does anyone know what kind of socket this is and what kinds of reflectors I should be looking for to match it with this ballast?

thx again

maybe try some cfl's
personally I would be more worried about fire with cfls than hps or mh, most hid's you buy at a hydro supply are designed for growing, most household cfl's however are not, humidity and cfl's do not mix, I have had a few melted bases and some bulbs that make fizzy popping sounds, unless you get a horticulture rated cfl id keep your house lights in your house. especially if you already have a ballast and whatnot

because they probably die lol. im not saying fires are gonna happen, just sometimes those bulbs make me nervous, I have a few in my vegetative area that haven't done anything bad yet, but my last grow my cfls kept getting all fucked up.

Cool

so if i were to buy one of these Ballasts (ONLY COMPATIBLE with hydrofarm reflectors, whatever socket that is)
http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/lumatek-250w-120v-hpsmh-electronic-ballast-p-2104.html

all I would need is to pop one of these on there
http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=53571

and plug it to the EasyCool 6
http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48150

and I am good to go ?

I don't need to buy any bulb sockets or anything?

By the way, do I want sunrise High and low refllector hangers, or a rope ratchet? :|

the ballast has a hydrofarm plug that goes to the socket, even if you bought a sun system cord you can get a adapter

Cfl's have been nothing but great to me and you run them in your house all day so why would you be more worried about them causing a fire over an hid...

because A) they're household lights, not made for humid conditions, and B) you have to use so many of them with y splitters and power jack adapters, it just seems smarter to have one good light made for growing in a humid climate, that is plugged into one jack. cfl's are good if you want to keep your clones and mothers alive cheaply like I do, but mostly I see poor people or underage kids using them because they cant afford good lighting or they don't want to get caught by mommy and daddy. no matter what you say cfls can do they are still ghetto and half assed. the only reason I have any at all in my grow room is because my metal halide hasn't gotten here yet.

lmao, im still worried though, my current establishment was built in the 70's, I'm just hoping the the wires aren't tin and I'm restricted in wattage because of the stupid circuit breaker is all old.

THANKS mate!

What about the bulbs I posted in the OP? Should I purchase those? I'm really hesitant because they are just random ones that seemed OK to me with a low price tag...
