i opted for no coal or oil in my electric. costs about 10% more, so i pay about $275 a month for electric rather than $250.
added cost of electric: $25

Because the Canadians were smart enough to realize it would fuck shit up and wanted it out of their country asap instead of running it to the pacific.
Why do you think most refineries are in the USA? Not to keep our gas prices down, it is because much of the world knows that all the crap they spew will fuck you up. Go check out cancer rates around refineries.
We refine and EXPORT 90% of our oil...... this drill baby drill stupidity does nothing but raise our exports..............
*It all comes down to this: Pipeline = more $$ for Romney and his ilk and more Cancer for the rest of us. It will do absolutely nothing as far as our own gas prices and do very little as far as jobs.

No deal has been signed yet and the pipeline is not dead. Obama will approve it be he wants to use it as leverage in further negotiations. Canada can say whatever the hell they want but when it comes down to it, it's more profitable for them to ship their fuel to the US than China. They'll deal with us. This is just Canada's negotiation tactic.

Okay, this might take a bit of stretch for both Canadians and USA'ers but here goes why the Keystone pipeline was a good idea.
It doesn't make sense to refine a product thousands of miles away from the market and then truck or train it to the market in its various commodities. That is, gas, diesel, propane, bunker fuel, etc. Each product needs a different mode of transportation. It makes more sense to pipe the raw product to the market, refine it and then distribute it locally.
Regecting the project for environmental concerns, simply doesn't make sense, because the USA does not have a very particularly stellar record when it comes to protecting the environment. I point to the fiascos in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. Although Canada has no such record, it seems that the Canadian environmentalists are over-emphasizing the dangers of the pipeline.
A few jobs in Canada and tons of jobs in the USA. Seems good to me...

The environmental concerns are bullshit IMO. We aren't talking about drilling for more oil here or even fracking. We're just talking about bringing resources in from Canada more efficiently.
This is a political game Obama is playing, and I support it 100%. If republicans want a pipeline, they've got to give Obama something he wants. That's how the Washington works. You can hate the game, I do, but I can't blame Obama for playing it. That's the only way he has to get what he needs to put Americans back to work.

what makes economic sense to do, and what we generally do, is sell it to the highest bidder to get the most money. and that is generally not local markets.
so, because we have not performed in a stellar fashion all the time, we should just stop trying altogether? that is not good logic, especially when the victim of such faulty logic would be every farmer, rancher and citizen that depends on the ogallala aquifer for water (which is a shitload of people).
