Two-thirds of Canadians support Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act to help handle the protests across the country, according to a new survey.

The Maru Public Opinion poll shows majority support for the measure in every province across the country with more than 70 per cent of those in B.C., Atlantic Canada and Quebec strongly in favour of the move while 65 per cent of those in Ontario approve. Those most likely to oppose invoking the Act can be found in Alberta (49 per cent) and Saskatchewan (43 per cent) where premiers of both those provinces have voiced their displeasure with the move.

The poll also finds 82 per cent of Canadians believe the situation in Ottawa has gone on for too long with 71 per cent calling it an international embarrassment for Canada.

Six in 10 Canadians say it’s time to clear out the protesters even if it means some people may get hurt, or worse, with half of those surveyed saying they support how the police have handled the situation with protesters.

The survey revealed 56 per cent believe premiers have caved into the protesters demands by easing public health measures and mandates even though many provincial leaders say they were doing so because the time had come to lower COVID restrictions. Almost seven in 10 Canadians say regardless of political stripe, politicians who have contributed to or supported these protests should be voted out of office.

With over ten years working in a hospital and seeing what we had to do to keep up with the virus I think you may be mistaken.

Why the federal government lets Canadians travel abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic

Freedumb vs this, it really comes down to this, overloaded children's wards and ICUs. Masks can help to make the children's epidemic manageable and so can vaccines. Masks for a defined period and purpose, masks are very effective against flu and RSV, so is handwashing and cleaning surfaces. We are facing a winter surge in cases and until the hospitals start having their burdens reduced and supplies of kid's medications can keep up, a mask shows you care and will reduce suffering and death in your community. The colder your climate the worse it will be until the population gains immunity through highly effective (this year) flu vaccines or naturally.

I feel for any parent that is having to deal with this, it would be scary at any time but to be dealing with it when the hospitals may not be able to help; and after the stress of the past few years. Burnout of nurses and doctors is only going to accelerate with it being young children. Overwhelmed at work, disrespected by too many selfish morons that wouldn't do the bare minimum (like wear a fucking mask) to prevent someone else from getting sick, and stupid fuck politicians that are impossible to underestimate. Are we considered third world yet?

“Now they need a little extra help, and they have asked a small team to come in temporarily from Red Cross to assist them with the second pediatric ICU, but that was certainly part of our planning to make sure we had the care we need for pediatric patients at CHEO and other pediatric hospitals,” said Martin, parliamentary assistant to Jones.

What gets me is the temporary nature of it and the reason for such a small inconvenience. I wear mine, not so much for me but for others and when the government mandated it, almost everybody complied, if they did it again, set time and hospital load limits and stressed its temporary nature and reason, I think compliance would go up. Any society that does not put its children first is doomed, the small and vulnerable look to adults for protection, not infection. Getting sick is normal for kids, but these are epidemic conditions, and the wave will pass, one way or another.

Unfortunately I believe the only people that would wear masks if the government mandated it are the people currently wearing masks now. There are too many fuckwads out there that are so insecure that the only way you'll get them to wear a mask is if the government mandated a mask ban in public. It's going to take some private businesses to step up and start mask mandates to enter their premises to get peoples attention and wearing masks.

I used the same logic I used to get the Covid shots to decide to get my first ever flu shot just a couple weeks ago.

This year they seem to have the right strain in the shot to protect from the rather nasty strain going around this year. My health is such that my outcome from having Covid or the flu would most likely be much worse than any possible complications from either vaccine.

Alberta here seems to have the most amount of cases and so far 8 or 9 deaths last I heard. Severe complications from either could be even worse than just dying from the diseases.

Hospitals are getting swamped worse than the peak of Covid now so we should be all using masks if we feel even slightly ill and have to go out somewhere. My wife is paranoid about getting sick so wears one of those blue masks everywhere even tho I've explained to her that those aren't very good protection against catching a bug. Will help to not spread a bug if she is sick but not a lot of protection from getting one. I don't bother with a mask but I have my covalent Covid shot and a fresh flu shot which she has neither tho she got the Covid shots up to and including the first booster.

Right now mask mandates would make a lot of sense but OMG would the shit hit the fan with the freedumbers.

The thing with this is getting all the permits etc to be able to open new mines in what are sure to be in protected areas and have many opponents protesting their development.

The Canadian mining industry has a horrible record of environmental abuses all over the world so we'll probably have to have foreign companies willing to follow regulations do the job here.

It is a great opportunity for Canada to cash in on more of our abundant natural resources and lithium for example can be extracted from the oil sands mining tailings up in Ft. McMoney I read the other day.

We need to distance ourselves as much as possible from China for materials like those needed to advance all the new technologies emerging to deal with fossil fuel reduction and alternative power production. I wouldn't mind picking up more stuff in our stores that has a 'Made In Canada' label on it either so lets get more manufacturing back home to further reduce reliance on imported goods.
