Canefan's New Grow 2010

Well after almost a year of not posting here I am starting a new grow journal :hump:. Since my last journal which sadly I did not finish but still smoking the results I figure it is time to start anew. First off I am growing some autos (lowryder x runt) you would have to go back into past journals to find out about runt but she was a sativa dom hybrid which was a nice smoke and crossed with lowryder. I am hoping that it produces a nice auto for me. I also have two females going now that come from el monstre and linda. Linda is a indica dom (Hawaii x skunk) cross that produced very well and was pretty mold resistant. El Monstre is from Sannie Seeds and produced a heavenly smoke, good rich blueberry taste, easy on the throat, great great high but also very prone to mold here.
Ok, here is my set up. I live in Costa Rica now, been here for 4 years and I live at an altitude of about 6500 ft above sea level, very wet, windy and cool. The humidity rarely goes below 80% and we receive close to 200 inches of rain per year with the wettest month being Oct. This is really bad for flowering outside and even in a greenhouse. Most plants don't last over 8 to 11 weeks in flower before they mold with some indicas molding within the first few weeks of flower.
So here is what I have done. I have taken my grows from the past which I have pollinated either entire plants or specific branches to to obtain my new seeds. The goal is to produce over a period of generations a good healthy plant for these conditions. Presently I am on my 4th generation of plants crossing and back crossing into a gene pool of now about 12 different strains to obtain what I hope will turn out to be what I had in Florida in past years. There I had several different strain which I had developed if I can be so bold to use that term which grew like crazy in my special spot there. I cannot say that I started an new strain that would breed true, honestly never really tried to be that good. I will say that I have been able to obtain some good results for myself and always seem to have happy plants and always have plenty of smoke.
OK enough BS and on with what is going on with the grow now. The autoflowers which I started 4 seeds I now have 2 in the containers and 2 in the germ tray waiting to sprout. I do the autos a little differently than what most of the people do here as far as putting them into their big containers and leaving them until they are finished. I start my seeds at least this time in rockwool and then place into their first container when they first appear out of the rockwool. I place them into a 1 gallon container for the first 3 to 4 weeks and then place them into a 3 gallon container with fresh compost until finished. Reasoning behind this is simple, I am a believer in the fresh soil to allow the plant the best of everything in the soil. I do not use any ferts, only manure tea, wood ash and fresh compost along with molasses. I use the molasses in every watering from the time the sprouts emerge until the final watering before harvest. I do not need to flush the plants this way, I have always had healthy strong plants with massive root system. My buds may not always be as large as some of the pics I have seen on this site but with the problem of mold I try and stay a little smaller anyway.
I have found that by limiting my plants to grow no more than about 3 feet before flower and usually in the range of about 2 feet I am able to keep more air circulating in the plant and keep the mold down to a minimum.
Thanks for reading this, I will have pics up later today of all the girls and the one males I have presently. I hope that if you have comments, suggestions or just what to BS you will write them. :weed::joint: PIcs to be posted in a few hours

I have wiped out my entry now 3 times.....think I should put the pipe down now:hump:
Thanks for stopping by Firstgrow and especially for the comment.
Since I have been having trouble getting into this new format and lost lots of work I am going to attach some photos and just stop writing......lol
Ok these first two photos are of a girl that was in flower and only about 4 1/2 inches tall. I feel terrible but I planted these 3 seeds and simply forgot about them. The dirt they were started in was used up dirt that came from a container which I had just harvested a plant. Yes I do re use my soils but I do have a strick method I use in recycling the soil. I use the soil from my old plants in little starter pots which is meant to hold the plants from one to two weeks before they go into the rich composted soil I use. I have burned seedlings in the past with the compost I use so I give them some mellow to get started in. Anway these plants now are looking good and the flower child is reveggie nicely.
Next post I will try more photos while I get use to this.

Nice to see your new grow canefan...A nice organic grow is always the cleanest and smoothest smoke, and u dont have to spend money on some super duper ferts, because it can all be done with organics and have the same results..the whole fertilizer shit is so over the top, and many ppl are so blinded that think u cannot do it and have good results without them. I have grown some test plants where some where given ferts and others got some of organic tea and ash, and the results were pretty much the same anyway...

Good luck to you mann and keep up the good work...:peace:

GrowSpace good to be back, feeling better and growing again, also nice to be back among my friends.
Lets see where I was yesterday in the journal. I guess I will start with the 3 forgotten plants that I tried to destroy. Since the plants all came from the same batch of seeds and looking closely at their growth patterns I have at least 2 phenos which I guess is pretty standard given that these are F1s. The photos in this post are the other girl and the male. Female is very busy diffently got most of the indica genetics which is ok for this go around. The male is also indica dominate. He is about to get cloned so that I can use this male to cross with the next generation that I put into containers last week (more to follow on that grow). The first photo is the girl and the middle plant in the second is the male. I will have my camera back in a few days and will start with many more photos. So once again to all the readers, please feel free to post your comments, questions and suggestions.
Thanks to all that have taken the time to read this rambling essay.:hump:

I guess I will explain my set up for the way I am growing my little girls and boys. I use a hybrid system of lights and the sun. I grow all year round vegging for a month or so depending on the height of the plant and how much room I have in the veg room.
I use between 2 and 5 105 watt cfls and a slew of 32 watt bulbs. The number of bulbs used just depends on the number of plants I have going at one time. I usually have between 4 and 10 plants going at different stages at any one time. Before you say that is not enough light for the many plants, I only use the lights as an assist. Growing this time of year as we all know with the days getting shorter the plants flower as soon as they are mature enough. So my bright idea last year was to use the sun during the day and then put them into the veg room at night and give them extra light to keep them in veg until they reach the desired height.
Well, I have run several groups through there and even grown some plants that rarely saw daylight just to see what was possible in there. SUCCESS all the way around. I can give the plants usually 18 hours of light now with this set up, works good for the autoflowers, good for starting my clones (I know everyone says 24/0 on clones) but they do fine at 18/6. The plants keep a deeper green than normal when I use the lights so I have had to be careful not to overexpose them in the sunlight or they will burn slightly.
The other benefit I have gotten from this system is that living in the mountains we get some storms that are just really killers, literally for plants. It is not uncommon to get 70 to 100 mph winds come whistling through here so it is nice to be able to protect the babies from this and still give them their light.
If anyone is reading all this stuff say hello and let me know what you think whether it be good or bad. I will have more updates and photos later in the day.

Yea mann..its a good idea to haul them in for the night and use indoor lights...i have thought about doing that also, but my plot is in a super secret spot, then everyday carrying would be a pain in the ass, being paranoid and shit  i would advise you to give them some dark period as well, 20-4 schedule is da best..someone even in here made a little experiment with these schedules if i remember correctly?! but u have thing covered super well so keep it on the go mann...keep us updated and happy times to you mann...:peace:

Hey Grow, Yeah it can be a bit of a pain hauling them back and forth but the end result is so sweet:hump:. They are on an 18/6 light to dark right now, about the only time I put them on 24/0 is when I have ones that are flowering that I want to reveg or if I happen to have clones in there. I understand about the paranoid feeling you can have doing this but that is why I live here now. Nobody bothers you in Costa Rica, keep things to yourself and nobody puts their nose in your business.
Thanks to the people reading the journal now if I could just get ya'll to write.:joint:

Well it has been an interesting couple of days here to say the least. I still don't have my camera back . But the update on the autos is ready. I have had a bit of a problem with getting them going but now they seem to be OK. When the little babies came out of the rockwool and showed their roots out the bottom, I put them into their containers. I usually use old dirt from the previous year to get them started but this time put them into the new compost soil,. they shot up and wilted back, laying lifeless on the ground. I guess my new compost is a little hot for them yet, but I flushed them and put a wire noose around them to stand two of the babies up and presto, after the flushing they are looking good as new.
Once again sorry no photos today but I am working on getting the camera back now. Thanks for reading and please say hello, write comments, suggestions, whatever.:joint:

The damn ants are back, just this morning I thought the autos were recovering nicely and:fire: friggin ants ate one. I don't know where they came from but one minute looking good and come back from getting gas and the one was eaten down to a nub. Wrong time of the moon to replant now so I guess I just have to hope for the best of the other 2.

Well, it has been a bad week to say the least. I am back from a trip down to Panama where I was for 4 days:hump:, that was the good part. The bad part was coming home, dumped the bike when I stopped to hit the pipe and it caught me between some big rocks and bruised the hell out of my ass and my ego...lol. Upon returning home I came down with a very high fever and then found out that I lost my best pheno I was growing due to ants.. The poor girl had her entire root system eaten down to the tap root. So the week has been pure crap. I did manage to get a clone from the girl so maybe all is not lost. My wife usually takes great care of the plants in my absence but this time things seemed to have gotten away from her.
I will give a better update tomorrow, but I had to let everyone know that I was back from my trip.
Kushmaster thanks for stopping by and commenting, and for all the other readers please feel free to add your comments and/or suggestions. Only 2 weeks away from starting the new seeds for the next crop.

Thank you Grow I needed the encouragement this week...., and the week started off so well also. The little clone from her is looking good and sitting on the desk in front of me resting on the modem for warmth. Today I just stepped up two of the babies into their 3 gallon pots, their roots were looking wonderful with lots of worms crawling around in the dirt.
For those of you that have followed my past grows you understand that a few times a year here we are invaded by ants and they eat everything in their path leaving little behind but death and destruction in their path. This assualt seems to be over as the heavy rains of fall are starting to set in again, so now for the new problem.....excess rain, humidity staying between 90 and 100% for the next 4 months. But all is as it should be this time of year here.
Tomorrow marks the new moon so the next planting phase is right around the corner for me. I have some Sannie's Jack seeds which I made last year crossing a nice Sannie's Jack male with a Sannie's Jack female. I know this isn't the wisest of crosses to just breed back within same parents but I wanted to see how this F5 bred back. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
I want to apologize for the lack of photos in this journal to date but since returning from Panama and spending the last 5 days in bed with a fever well over 100 I just couldn't make the trip to get my camera. This week I should be able to make the long trip again to pick it up.
Latest update on the female that I revegged......LOL I don't know what the wife did to it but it was barely still in the ground when I arrived home. She told me that we had some extremely high winds while I was gone and this poor girl was in a new pot of soil so I figure that the dirt was still a little loose and the wind worked her free. I put about 2 inches of fresh compost around her and let her sit out in a heavy heavy rain, we are talking over 8 inches of rain within a 12 period and that seems to have packed the soil in nice and tightly.
She is now outside for flowering, I am pushing her a bit as she still had not reverted back to the normal leaf formations but I was too weak to move her back and forth into the veg room. Time will tell what she does, all I can say is she looks and acts very healthy, nice green and her roots have already shown at the drain holes in the bottom.:weed:
Well enough rambling for this morning, thanks to all the viewers. Again all comments and suggestions welcome.

Well, I carried my tire ass out to the rancho today and drug my laptop and web cam along with me so please excuse the quality of the pics. LOL I had to put the plants in veg room to get it dark enough to take pics with the web cam but at least there is a record again of the plants. These first picks are from the one that was in flower and revegged, she still is putting out the singles and curled leaves but what the hell right? Her name is yema, in spanish it has a meaning of candied or bud. I guess you could call it wishful thinking or hoping. I name all the strains, it helps me keep them straight and when I cross it makes for easier labels.
The first three pics are the female and the remainder in this post are the male from this strain.
Will add another post for the other plants with photos.:joint:

The first plant in the photos I am inserting in this post is from El Monstre (sannie's seeds) she is known as Melissa here from the Allman Brothers Band. She is the result of an El Monstre male and female, the mother was very sweet, smelled of Blueberries with a simple delicious taste you can savor long after the smoke. When you open the jar she fills the room with her scent, I am smoking some of it while I type:joint:. She was in the jar since I think Oct of last year and keeps getting better, I can only hope that she delivers herself in these seeds. She is growing almost exactly as her mother did so we can open it was a good match.
First two photos are Melissa.
The second set of photos are Sannie's Jack (sannie seeds) this is from the F5 version and I wanted to see just what breeding back to itself would do. The father was a great looking plant very tall, quick growing and just seemed he would never open his pollen sacs. When this boy did decide it was time to produce he produced massively large clusters. The mother was for me good, I have to admit it didn't look anything like what was on his web site. This could be the pheno, weather here it was an outside grow compared to the stated indoor he recommends. The smoke was and is very good and I know had I not had to take here early due to mold problems she would have been awesome. She flowered for 11 weeks before she started getting some spots of mold and I took her then instead of losing everything and I believe here she could have gone at least another 4 to 6 weeks. Once again that was outside so it sounds about right to me. Being young it is a very head racy high, go into a room stand there and WTF I came in here for something and then do it again:hump:. In another words very pleased and can only hope that we got a good cross here.
Thanks to all the readers that put up with my ramblings but it is the easiest way for me to keep my plants and timelines straight. All comments and suggestions, even a hello is appreciated. Happy Growing

Well, just a quick update. Everyone is looking good this morning, no more problems cropping up so far. The little girl that was killed last week by ants has given herself a new clone. The roots showed up late yesterday afternoon and I placed her in the starting pot this morning. I also put 12 seeds into the germ tray on Sunday, these are from a plant that is either Lady Cane (pretty sure) from Sannie's Seeds, or Sannie's Jack and the male was Sannie's Jack. These seeds came straight from the plant not cured seperately or anything just cleaned a bit of bud and stuck the seeds in the germ tray.
This morning I placed them in their rockwool and they are sitting on the balcony soaking up a little muted sunlight and warmth. These babies will be what I keep going for awhile now to get through the heaviest of the rainy season. I am hoping to get 3 good looking females from these and clone the 3 best for the next few months. I am just trying to get my rotation going to have 2 to 3 plants a month coming ready.
Thanks for the readers taking their time to stop by....now please feel free to offer suggestions, comments, what I am doing wrong or right in your opinion.:weed:

looking better already cane...i have heard that if u use coffee powder and put it all around your plot, then all kinds of bugs( maybe ants too) will not want to touch your crop, at least the bastards who cannot fly.Maybe it can be use to you but i have not done it myself, but a an old vegetable grower told me that...
Oh mann, i also got finally, finally my 2 plants , one white widow and ak 47..i put them out 2 days ago, yeah it lat, put what the hell, moving them indoor when its time and clone the shit out of them..sorry, i just had to share this with u canefan, cas i am so happy that i can grow once again :lol:

Keep up the good work...:peace:

Growspace that is great news I am very happy to hear that you got your grow going again. You know I always looked forward to reading your journal and watching that monster lady come of age. This year my grow is doing alright I have been having problems with the wee little ones, it has been extremely windy here this year and they get bent so easily, but you have to break them in or let them get broken down and let the strongest survive. The ant problem is over now at least until November, I hope. I do use some coffee grounds around but here it doesn't seem to hinder the ants, I think it just get them hyped up....lol.
My two newest seedlings are not doing well today I left them out while I went to town and they got blown over big time. I put a little wire around them to prop them up and give them a chance at living through this, had three but something was hungry and left me a little stem sticking up when I returned.....lol oh well.
Growspace you are going to be starting a journal? I hope.:joint::joint:
